????? QB’s

I don't know that it really matters where they come from, but the lack of prep QB development over the last 5 years has not been good, and eventually we're going to get a one year rental from the portal that doesn't pan out like it has in the past. As it stands currently, we have no QB depth either. Body's don't equal depth, body's who can make a contribution equal depth.

For depth. are you counting out Brown, the redshirt frosh from qb's, and the Oregon transfer? Did u c them in practice or talk to the coaches?

I count Brown, sort of... and yes, I have seen them practice. Again, depth means more than just having QB's on the roster. If they can't help you in an actual game, which Huot and Abbot haven't (yet), they aren't really depth. Abbot played meaningful football is Texas, but wasn't even on scholarship at Oregon where he didn't even run the scout team. Huot is pretty raw, and needs more development before he is ready for D1 ball.

Okay. I disagree.

Vidlak has 3 years remaining. He can make all the throws. He's job-hopped because he wants PT; I think he'll get it here. Huot and Abbott will both be ready to compete this spring. With Vidlak we'll have the depth we need at QB.

Has there been any confirmation that Vidlak actually would get 3 years? I thought the transfer portal was only accessible one time without having to sit out a year, and this would be Vidlak's 2nd transfer. I know grad transfers don't count, but I find it unlikely Vidlak has graduated in only 2 years.

It's very likely Vidlak will come here.

He may very well come here, but he has very little game-time experience to make any reasonable prediction of how good he may be. Johnson had started multiple games at both Georgia Tech and SDSU, plus was the winning QB in a bowl game. Vidlak has none of that going for him.

All I know is hes got a cannon of an arm. There's a video of him at practice at Boise and he throws a 70 yd dime. Was right on the money.

Vidlak has a way better arm than Johnson, however he's not a dual threat like Johnson. Unfortunately. Can't we just get a guy that can nail 70 yd passes and run a 4.3 40. That'd be dope. Lmao

Abbott is a baller, given a chance and he will thrash the sky

I hope thats the case, but it remains to be seen at the college level. He wasn't a highly recruited guy despite where he played and the records he broke. Believe he was committed to Yale for a while before deciding to go to Oregon as a PWO.

"Seeing that he made his decision so late in the recruiting calendar, other schools were involved with the Houston native. For a long time Yale, Harvard, Princeton and multiple ivy league schools were involved.

LSU started talking to him in late March just before Oregon got involved in mid-April. Texas State and some other small in state schools were also in the picture."

From Ducks Digest article.

How many qbs have we had that were getting talked to by big programs like Oregon and LSU?

The kid obviously has talent.

Will it carry over to college? Who knows. I'm extremely excited about him. I think he will do great things here, if he sticks around.

For yall that don't remember his highlights.

That kid is really good at needling the ball to his receivers and getting it in good position where only the receiver will get it. His accuracy is awesome. I personally think he's got more talent than Vidlak. Wouldn't mind seeing those 2 battle it out.

Abbott also runs a 4.6 40, he's got legs too. Could be a really good dual threat at the fcs level. Honestly if I was the recruiter, I'd be looking for a backup to him and rely on Abbott next season and get some quality game time for him. If it don't work out, bring in someone in 2024.

This is what Britt could not do. His longer passes hung and got picked. Vidlak, Abbott and Huot competing next spring and fall are ideal.

What I don't get is how a player like him, who broke a bunch of records playing in Texas, albeit not in one of the super competitive districts of 6A, didn't garner more recruiting attention.

Very impressive. No reason to exclude Huot from that competition.

Count me among those who think the Griz need to bring in another QB. These guys are avail according to a recent article:

Brennan Armstrong (Virginia)
Austin Aune (North Texas)
Hank Bachmeier (Boise State)
Connor Bazelak (Indiana)
Davis Brin (Tulsa)
Zach Calzada (Auburn)
Sam Hartman (Wake Forest) - Most likely to ND
Malik Hornsby (Arkansas)
Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina) - I thought I heard he signed somewhere?
Tanner Mordecai (SMU)
Chance Nolan (Oregon State)
Chandler Rogers (UL Monroe)
Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State)
Mike Wright (Vanderbilt)

The most important position group on the team is also the biggest question mark going into next season...

The Griz don't have starting qb going into winter conditioning.

If the North Texas guy is the one I’m thinking of, he’s like 29 years old. Perfect for Bobby.

You are such a fan; why don't you give it up. Make a New Year's resolution or something.

Among Abbott, Vidlak and Huot we do. And have plenty of time to select.
