Putting It In Perspective

From the Appalachian State Football faithful, we're sorry for your loss and sincerest condolences.

Your post did put things into perspective. I'm leaving tomorrow for Montana to watch this game. I hope you and your family enjoy the game and it takes your mind off this big loss in your family.

Best Regards!

One of the things I have come to appreciate about football in the fall at Washington Grizzly is the consistency of it. It's a sacred place that does not change even as we fans endure loss of loved ones and career changes and moves both planned and unplanned. If you have sat in the same seat like I have for decades surrounded mostly by the same people, you know we all experience this.
That field unchanged in size year in and year out, the predictability of the rules, the young athleticism that's ageless even as we age, these things provide amazing safe harbor, a sanctuary of sorts.
I'm sorry for your loss, cclark. I hope you make it to the game.

Cclark,

I'm very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Thanks for starting this thread. I was looking forward to taking in the Cat game tomorrow and lo and behold, after my dr. appt. today I am now scheduled for a heart cath on Friday. I'm 44 and scared out of my drawers. Today I was humbly reminded that "it's just a game".

Hope you and the family make it to the game and are able to have a fun weekend.

what a depressing thread

Sorry for you and your families loss.

Have eternal memories

Thanks for your post and putting life's priorities in perspective

once again you've managed to put life into perspective. Sorry for your loss and know that your friends here on egriz have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Wow, thanks to everyone of you for your kind wishes. Griz nation is truly an amazing, unique fanbase. I actually wasn't looking for the wishes, but I am truly touched. At least my wife says I am. The other common thing we share is that we have all had a mother, although some days I'm not too sure about a few of you.

The main point I was trying to make is that if waiting for a football game is in the top 5 priorities of your life, then you are truly blessed. A lot of things can happen to change that but enjoy it while you can. I sometimes think there are fans that would like to skip summer altogether just to get to football season. I encourage you to enjoy the ride and the anticipation. Look at it as foreplay, the wait just makes it all the sweeter.

As far as my mom goes, the world was a better place because she was here. And to cyclin griz, I would like to think of her being at the Griz game too, but since she was born and bred in Birmingham, I'm guessing she will be watching "Bama.

Thanks again, all of you.

brokebacker,

Sorry to hear about your health issue. You will be in my prayers. It is a scary thing. Heck, I worried for months about the colonoscopy, I hate that sort of thing. But it was better than dropping my soap in the prison shower, or having aliens suck me up into their ufo and perform anal experiments on me. In short I hope it turns out a lot better than your fears. Feel free to pm me.

I hate going to the doctor, even though I'm married to a nurse. If there's a saber-toothed tiger in your front yard or you need some to keep you alive in a crisis, I'm your man. But pull out a needle to take a blood test...

GBB1: My mom is 81 and just had a second set of stents installed. It was a piece of cake and you will be just fine. The power of positive thinking!

Cclark - Hang in there. There are tough times for you and yours. Being together and in a place that celebrates life (like a Griz game) is the best therapy. You know it is what your mom would have wanted.

No words can make it easier. Still miss my mother. Always a special relationship.
Sorry to hear about your loss. My dad once told me the only thing worse would be losing a
child before the parent.
Hope you enjoy the Montana -vs- App State game. Hate to say though, hope you don't
enjoy it too much. Sorry.

CC, being a part of Griz Nation is not only a privilege and an honor. We may bicker and disagree but in the end we all wish nothing but the best for the students, the athletes, and the University. I strongly suspect our brothers and sisters in Boone are much like us.
It is going on 30 years since my mother left this world and she is a big part of what I am. It is hard to let go but in time your memories will be good ones.
Take care and safe travels and like you would say, Go Griz!

You'll be fine brokebacker. I'm 46 and have had a stroke, open heart surgery with a triple by-pass, a heart attack and 3 or 4 heart caths. Sending positive thoughts your way. Hope it all turns out fine. Wait until they stick the camera down your throat to look at your heart. Had that twice. It's worse than all the rest combined.
And cclark, sorry to hear about your mother.
