Whether anyone wants to admit it or not - this game has now become a must win. Griz are embarrassed, pissed and wide awake at home for this one. 33 - 10 Griz rebound and give the fans hope for the rest of the season. A loss means I will be outside Rolls residence with a pitchfork and torch. Others would be welcome to join me. Fortunately that will not be neccessary.
Every conference game is a must win if you intend to win the BSC championship IMO. T. Poehls summed it up best in the press conference. He basically said that NAU approached the game as a playoff game, and had that type of intensity, while the UM Oline had the intensity of a scrimmage. We have to approach every game as a playoff game, and have to have a one speed mentality the rest of the season. The NAU game was not as bad as the scoreboard made it look. If you take away the 2 scoop and scores it's still anybody's game. This week vs PSU our boys WILL redeem themselves.....I have faith

Let's just say I wouldn't want to be the Vikings coming into a pissed off Grizzly den. Poor move at best. Vikes should forfeit now.

Good Guys 45
Vikings 17

Griz - 48
PSU - 28

I think we get to 48 with a couple of turnovers (not returned for TD's)...our defense won't look spectacular but one td a quarter will be enough

I hate to say it, but if Portland State is able to take their opening possesion down the field and score a touchdown like UND and NAU did, this game could be very close to the end. Having the offense put into a come from behind mindset immediatley again would make me uncomfortable after what I saw last week.
If we are able to get out in front early and stay aggressive on defense, I see a comfortable victory for the Griz.
Hungry Bears 38 Viks (mentholatum?) 21

Go Griz!

Great to be back on this forum as an occasional visitor. Some really insightful comments on this thread.

A few thoughts from a Viks fan (24 years and counting) coming in to this game. Many of us are feeling an undercurrent of hope concerning the culture of this program we haven't really felt since the Div II days under Pokey Allen. An identity that hints at a consistent and persistent level of competition at the FCS level. This is Burton's team now, with recruits and transfers primarily under his watch.

It was painful for us to lose to Cal Poly, especially the way we lost. But the assertion that we are a first half team is a pretense that needs a little more reflection. Against Cal we faced a Pac 12 team, and even with the adjustments the Bears made, we were still in that game to the end. With Cal Poly, we had two less days to rest and prepare (it was a Thursday night game) and the Mustangs had a bye week to prepare for us. No doubt our defense was ragged as the game wore on. In the other three games we exploded in the second half.

I am looking forward to a great game this Saturday and hope both teams come out with no serious injuries so we get a chance to play each other again this year!

Thought PSU looked decidedly beatable against Cal Poly. If we can't beat this team at home, we're in for a long, long season. With that, I expect the Griz to come out pissed and refocused. 31-23.

I waa at that game as well. I came away with a different impression. To me, PSU looked sloppy. Lots of blown routes and/or QB/WR communication issues. I also noticed the penalties and silly mental breakdowns that, I think, cost them the game. The most glaring was an illegal sub penalty on a 4th and 2. That killed PSU's chances at tying the game. These guys had many false starts at HOME. With the greater crowd noise at Wa-Griz, this problem could be exacerbated. The Viks are a bit streaky. When they are hot, they are fun to watch. When they go cold, Aloha high might be able to stop the O. It can be very frustrating to watch.

As for the trip to Missoula, PSU plays tough at home, but has historcally struggled in Missoula. I say the crowd gets to them early and they die of self inflicted wounds. They will score points but not enough as mental breakdowns cost them the game.

It just seems this past couple seasons well 2010 on records are broken at UM.
First loosing season in 25 years
Out of playoffs in 2010 for first time many years.
Loose to NAU in WaGriz
Loose at NAU first time in 16 years I recall.
Now PSU coming to town looking to break a dry spell in WaGriz.

I do not mean to be negative but this game with the offense PSU has looks to be the makings for an upset. That tall wide reciver they have with Davis at RB and there load of a mobile QB this game has me really worried. I watched the CAL and Cal Poly games and we surely have reason to be concerned.

This could most definitely be the defining game of the season. Win and well that gives hope. We rack up anothe L and it could be bad here on out.

I would like to see the Griz come out and set the tone. Last week it felt like our players were perpetually trying to keep pace with the tone that NAU set. I would love to see the Griz start and finish a game the aggressor.

After watching how physical PSU played against Cal Poly I predict:

PSU 38
GRIZ 23

when was the last time the griz lost by 2+ td's at home?

Honestly, I've been going to games since I was 5 (born in '88) and I can't recall that. Cal Poly won by 14 in a playoff game in '05 and that's as big a loss at home as I can remember.
