PSU at Montana Game Thread

UM overcame a lackluster first half and early turnovers, where their shooting went south after being good earlier in the game. Gave up too many offensive rebounds early, but some of them were lucky ball bounces to PSU. Had a huge spurt of 12-0 to start second half. Controlled the game after that.

Generally, UM played good D. Only 1 PSU player in double figures. 2 leading scorers who played got almost nothing. Leading scorer has sat out last 4 games for disciplinary reasons. PSU isn't a bad team, but I didn't think they were all that good. Thought they'd be better. Edwards is huge and hard to stop near basket, but he's awkward and also and slow and got dumb fouls.

Overcame Rorie's 2 quick fouls in first 3 minutes, the last a pretty much BS call and the first a minor thing. One ref in particular, the lighter skinned guy, continues to blow his whistle too much and is a bad ref. Travis sat Rorie for a couple minutes, and then brought him back for over 13 minutes until late in the half.

Way too many fouls in called the first half. Too many unnecessary calls, particularly by one guy. PSU got screwed more than the Griz, and the number of guys in foul trouble from the first half probably hurt PSU in the second half. UM got 9 more free throws, and made 10 more. Edit: the call by this same ref against Akoh, first on the rebound (where the PSU guy completely fouled and pushed Akoh) and then the related technical, was just terrible. The league should take away that guy's whistle.

Rorie is a terrific ball handler and leader and is having a very nice season. I see why Travis keeps him on the court so much.

Okah has been good or very good in every game I've seen him play after the first few. He's a beast. Love the way he plays. Often unstoppable.

Moorehead continued his strong play. He does all the little things, many big things, and doesn't make many mistakes. Had a nice game, including a nice first half. Had a great hustle play diving for a ball where he was 3 or 4 feet behind the play. I see why Travis likes him on the court. Whatever is necessary, he makes the play or fills the gap.

I'm sorry, but Krslovic is a very good player. He plays hard and doesn't make many mistakes. Plays within himself. Hustles. His dive play a full speed going downcourt to dive ahead of a PSU player to get to a loose ball, and then immediately make a pass, was something that I have never seen any big man make, or maybe even try. 6 posts on 3=4 shooting. & rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Oguine had a nice but not huge game. 10 rebounds and 14 points. Okay, maybe a bigger game than I thought Love how he follows to the rim. Had a huge early dunk over a PSU player, to fire up the team and crowd early.

Pridgett had a nice game. Falls wasn't good as usual and only played 11.

Griz made some mistakes early, and again late. Travis said they would try to clean up some of that stuff today. No one else played much, including Nicholas. Everyone got in except Nico.

The Spirit Squad and Band continued with strong performances. The Dance Team isn't being funded for a trip to Reno this year, so is trying to raise $6,000. I will start a thread on this later today. They need to get there.

I'm sorry, but that cannot be true. If the Griz make the dance, he is the WORST...THE WORST starter in the entire field. Please, do not let stats, or the eye test, detour that fact!
I only watched the second half and man they looked good. I love that TD keeps it up for 40 minutes, but I wish that when up by more than 20 he'd give the bench the last full 4 minutes! hahaha

Back in early December I thought the Griz would be 5th in the conference. Happy to be wrong. Even if they were to lose one or two, this has been a great season and, even though UM loses Kriskovic, I think UM will be the strongest in an improving league, next year.

Last night watching game my son says " one senior huh , that is just unfair to the other teams next year"

This team...I'm simply running out of superlatives.

This was a pasting. It was pointed out above that the average -- the AVERAGE -- margin of victory in conference play is 17 points. That's insanity. there are years in which really good Griz teams may not win more than one or two games all year by 17. This team is averaging that.

Ridiculous. And Travis, you're the best halftime coach I've ever seen.

Enjoy this ride, people. Sky's the limit for this team.

Note that in prior years, and at Stanford this season, UM sometimes faltered after halftime or later in the game. But you are right, Travis has them coming out strong after halftime in the last couple months.

You saw the better half, for the Griz, at least. Not hitting on all cylinders in first half, but still playing tough D. I liked what Travis said on the radio. "Don't let your O (like not happening O) affect your D."

Riley Bradshaw was dressed up, coach-like, and on the bench last night. Is he a grad asst or something now?

I think I saw an earlier post stating that Riley is a grad assistant. :thumb:

Thx. That explains it. He seemed fairly active and fired up on the bench and going into timeouts.

Sayeed Pridgett is becoming one of my favorite Griz players. The guy does it all.

An excellent 6th man! Can come off the bench and add a spark. Seems to every game recently!

has been all season

Must have been the first game PR made last night. 11th home game....
I am pretty sure PR has been at many of the games this season. I have been to all of them and I didn't notice Riley until a couple of weeks ago. I was not used to seeing him in a suit! :thumb:

I've been to every men's and women's game when I've been in town. My wife was at the 2 prior men's games, but I was at Big Sky then (so didn't see Bradshaw). You'll know where I sit when you see where some of the Dance Team is hanging out at half time tonight. I'm introducing them to some friends who will donate to their effort to raise $6,000 to get to Reno. The athletic dept. isn't paying for the trip this year. You'll see my thread on this situation later today. By "you", I don't mean Whiz.
