UM overcame a lackluster first half and early turnovers, where their shooting went south after being good earlier in the game. Gave up too many offensive rebounds early, but some of them were lucky ball bounces to PSU. Had a huge spurt of 12-0 to start second half. Controlled the game after that.
Generally, UM played good D. Only 1 PSU player in double figures. 2 leading scorers who played got almost nothing. Leading scorer has sat out last 4 games for disciplinary reasons. PSU isn't a bad team, but I didn't think they were all that good. Thought they'd be better. Edwards is huge and hard to stop near basket, but he's awkward and also and slow and got dumb fouls.
Overcame Rorie's 2 quick fouls in first 3 minutes, the last a pretty much BS call and the first a minor thing. One ref in particular, the lighter skinned guy, continues to blow his whistle too much and is a bad ref. Travis sat Rorie for a couple minutes, and then brought him back for over 13 minutes until late in the half.
Way too many fouls in called the first half. Too many unnecessary calls, particularly by one guy. PSU got screwed more than the Griz, and the number of guys in foul trouble from the first half probably hurt PSU in the second half. UM got 9 more free throws, and made 10 more. Edit: the call by this same ref against Akoh, first on the rebound (where the PSU guy completely fouled and pushed Akoh) and then the related technical, was just terrible. The league should take away that guy's whistle.
Rorie is a terrific ball handler and leader and is having a very nice season. I see why Travis keeps him on the court so much.
Okah has been good or very good in every game I've seen him play after the first few. He's a beast. Love the way he plays. Often unstoppable.
Moorehead continued his strong play. He does all the little things, many big things, and doesn't make many mistakes. Had a nice game, including a nice first half. Had a great hustle play diving for a ball where he was 3 or 4 feet behind the play. I see why Travis likes him on the court. Whatever is necessary, he makes the play or fills the gap.
I'm sorry, but Krslovic is a very good player. He plays hard and doesn't make many mistakes. Plays within himself. Hustles. His dive play a full speed going downcourt to dive ahead of a PSU player to get to a loose ball, and then immediately make a pass, was something that I have never seen any big man make, or maybe even try. 6 posts on 3=4 shooting. & rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Oguine had a nice but not huge game. 10 rebounds and 14 points. Okay, maybe a bigger game than I thought Love how he follows to the rim. Had a huge early dunk over a PSU player, to fire up the team and crowd early.
Pridgett had a nice game. Falls wasn't good as usual and only played 11.
Griz made some mistakes early, and again late. Travis said they would try to clean up some of that stuff today. No one else played much, including Nicholas. Everyone got in except Nico.
The Spirit Squad and Band continued with strong performances. The Dance Team isn't being funded for a trip to Reno this year, so is trying to raise $6,000. I will start a thread on this later today. They need to get there.
