PSU at Montana Game Thread

This is the difference between the last few years and this year. We just have more weapons and the guys know if they hustle and work their ass off they will win, so they do. Hope they keep believing and grinding.

some key stats from the nose bleed section, points in the paint 48-20, assists 15-9, fast break points 10-0, and PSU shot 27 3 pointers.

Wow, PSU averages like 88 pts per game and are 4th in the nation in scoring. Griz just held them to 60 pts.

Saw a stat that mo big Sky team has ever had an average point differential of more than 10 pts...Griz now averaging 17 point differential.

Back in early December I thought the Griz would be 5th in the conference. Happy to be wrong. Even if they were to lose one or two, this has been a great season and, even though UM loses Kriskovic, I think UM will be the strongest in an improving league, next year.

Back from the game. What a nice for the Griz. Ugly first half, but it was for both teams, so it come out as a draw.

As has been the trend, Griz came out strong in the second half and quickly created some separation. DeCuire is become quite the chess player!

It’s honestly not the outcome I was expecting. I was anticipating a hard fought single digit win, but I’ll take the beat down any day!

What I like about this team is when things are ugly, or not necessarily going their way, they find ways to adapt and win. I’m this point I feel like teams are desperate to throw different looks at the Griz, so far they have responded to everyone’s best shot.

Great game Griz. Let’s do it again Saturday night!

Just home from the game, thanks to heavy to snowfall on the way home.

Anyway, this GRIZ team is proving the importance of consistently great defense. The 1st half, both teams were all out of sort (could that be from too many whistles?). The adversity the GRIZ went through last season and early this season is paying them back two fold. Anymore, they know they are capable of playing through anything, against any kind of style, and always take PRIDE in defense and hustle.

It seems like, every opponent struggles with turnovers and getting good high percentage shots against the GRIZ defense. The GRIZ defense absolutely strangles offenses and put both feet down on the throat while strangling them. They are a machine on defense. Speaking of defense, PSU's pressure did nothing against the GRIZ. The GRIZ only had 10 turnovers for the game, with 6 of them in the 1st 10 minutes. They handled the pressure with ease. The GRIZ were much better against their defense than in the 1st game. It is a huge plus to have the likes of Rorie, Oguine, Falls, and Pridgett that can routinely beat the press with great ball handling and passing. The stutter step, change of pace Pridgett did at 3/4 court was a thing of beauty, that led to a lay in that was just as beautiful. Pridgett is so damn smooth with the ball.

To take it a step further, Espe looked pretty comfortable beating the pressure too. I have a feeling, he will do just fine, when he is expected to play rotational minutes. He is a nice point guard too. He just was not as ready as Falls and Nicholas were as Freshman.

As for PSU, it looks like their style of play has really caught up to them, as the season has worn on. Granted, they play most their players. Unfortunately, their depth is not the quality it needs to be, to consistently play that style. It looked to me that their players are physically worn out. They are not even close to the quality of team we saw a month ago. Yes, I feel they are capable of beating anyone. I also feel, they don't have the depth to win more than 2 games in the conference tournament. An upgrade in facilities would help attract the talent they need to play that style. For what it is worth, I actually like their coach too. I just don't know if he will ever have the depth to be a consistent conference contender, at PSU.

With all that said, I don't want to see PSU early in the conference tournament. The highlight of the night for me, had to be Oguine's steal and dunk. I cannot wait to see that dunk when I watch the game on demand. Great game GRIZ!!! Keep the focus and special things can happen for this year's GRIZ!!!!

How did Falls play tonight?

He played way less than I expected. Was at the game and he's my daughter's favorite player on this team with the unconscious passes that he makes. He seems to be prone to bad, ticky-tack calls, and coach seems to pull him right after it happens. Didn't look it up but I'm guessing he had maybe 12-15 min total. Either way, he was electric when he was in and always elicited crowd noise.

Travis was always coaching him up immediately when he came out and you got the sense that coach is making the case that he needs to figure that out. Looking forward to what develops with this kid...

They currently have under construction a pretty nice new facility scheduled to open next season. Check out their website.

This team...I'm simply running out of superlatives.

This was a pasting. It was pointed out above that the average -- the AVERAGE -- margin of victory in conference play is 17 points. That's insanity. there are years in which really good Griz teams may not win more than one or two games all year by 17. This team is averaging that.

Ridiculous. And Travis, you're the best halftime coach I've ever seen.

Enjoy this ride, people. Sky's the limit for this team.

The GRIZ are only losing 1 player. The Sky may be the limit this year. Next year, we very well could see something very special, especially if Dorsey is able to play 100% healthy.
