MBBALL Pridgen NOT returning

This is old news. Pridgen has been telling everyone in town that he’s done playing basketball (at least in college). People tied into the scene have known this for months - media was asleep at the wheel on this one. Defenses are going to load up on Money, so some other guys will need to be ready to make things happen.

Media wasn't asleep. UM finally confirmed and they reported it. In private, most were skeptical of the initial announcement

Well if there's one thing I'm NOT, it's "tied into the scene".

Part of "being a good journalist" is reporting verifiable facts. Being "ahead of the story" and reporting rumor are two vastly different things. And I know. I'm married to a 25-year newspaper reporter.

in the days where traditional media was the only media, radio guys used to get credited for scoops all the time. Now if the radio guy doesn't tweet it or write about it, no scoop is given haha.

We have talked about Pridgen not getting his extra year a few times on Nuanez Now and also implied that to be true given the Griz added so many guys this off-season.

There's also the element of this that it's not ACTUALLY true until the ruling comes down and UM makes the announcement officially official.

It’s far more than taking the scoring load off Money. It’s Pridgen’s toughness that will be missed. Every great team needs a guy like that. We’ll miss him.
Yep, the few live games I saw him play I loved that he would stand at half-court during pre-game and stare at the opposing players.

Are they though? Just sometimes those rumors are true and sometimes they’re not. The reporter still barely knows the difference while making their report.
Well that's my point. The reporter SHOULD know. And back in the olden days (when my wife was a newspaper reporter) you had to have TWO verifiable sources willing to go on the record before you ran with a story. Nowadays, it's report (on page 1) on juicy rumor, retract (several days later and buried) once the facts come out.

Yes, quite clear now the way things should be done and the way they are done are not in alignment with each other.

Provide more than one example of what you say occurs regularly. It's easy to say it happens, it's harder to prove it.

Sensationalism and yellow journalism have been a part of the media for over a century. The fake news era is a variant, slightly different but just history repeating itself as it always does.

I stand by my assertion that print/digital media was at least a month or two behind this story - Nuanez got it much earlier on his program as he stated.
