Turns out he had exhausted his eligibility. That fucking sucks.
Media wasn't asleep. UM finally confirmed and they reported it. In private, most were skeptical of the initial announcementThis is old news. Pridgen has been telling everyone in town that he’s done playing basketball (at least in college). People tied into the scene have known this for months - media was asleep at the wheel on this one. Defenses are going to load up on Money, so some other guys will need to be ready to make things happen.
Part of being a good journalist is to get ahead of a story, not sit around and wait for a press release.Media wasn't asleep. UM finally confirmed and they reported it. In private, most were skeptical of the initial announcement
Not all stories require getting ahead of, like this one. Just report when something is official.Part of being a good journalist is to get ahead of a story, not sit around and wait for a press release.
Well if there's one thing I'm NOT, it's "tied into the scene".This is old news. Pridgen has been telling everyone in town that he’s done playing basketball (at least in college). in the days where traditional media was the only media, radio guys used to get credited for scoops all the time. Now if the radio guy doesn't tweet it or write about it, no scoop is given haha.Media wasn't asleep. UM finally confirmed and they reported it. Yep, the few live games I saw him play I loved that he would stand at half-court during pre-game and stare at the opposing players. It’s far more than taking the scoring load off Money. It’s Pridgen’s toughness that will be missed. Every great team needs a guy like that. We’ll miss him.
Are they though? Just sometimes those rumors are true and sometimes they’re not. The reporter still barely knows the difference while making their report.Being "ahead of the story" and reporting rumor are two vastly different things.
A good reporter doesn't report on rumor. That used to be the National Equirerer's job.Are they though? Just sometimes those rumors are true and sometimes they’re not. The reporter still barely knows the difference while making their report.
The trust is gone and may be irreparable.A good reporter doesn't report on rumor. That used to be the National Equirerer's job.
Nowadays though? You'd be hard pressed to find a "good reporter".
Well that's my point. The reporter SHOULD know. And back in the olden days (when my wife was a newspaper reporter) you had to have TWO verifiable sources willing to go on the record before you ran with a story. Nowadays, it's report (on page 1) on juicy rumor, retract (several days later and buried) once the facts come out.Are they though? Just sometimes those rumors are true and sometimes they’re not. Yes, quite clear now the way things should be done and the way they are done are not in alignment with each other.Well that's my point. The reporter SHOULD know. Provide more than one example of what you say occurs regularly. It's easy to say it happens, it's harder to prove it.Well that's my point. The reporter SHOULD know. Going by your posts you should sit this one out.....Provide more than one example of what you say occurs regularly. It's easy to say it happens, it's harder to prove it.
