Also, maybe it’s just me, but I think the WR room needs to step up altho Fontes can play. Either way, we’re going to be a running team.

From what I saw of Vidlak and Brown in the spring, I don't agree with that assertion. Vidlak looked much better getting the ball downfield consistently.garizzalies said:Sorta. You’re close. I didn’t say proven or in games but I get the concern.ElrodGrizzly said:I have gone out of my way to never say one bad word about KB. By all accounts, a fantastic kid and he is a serviceable backup. But his BIGGEST flaw is that he absolutely does not look off defenders. He locks on to one guy pre-snap, and does not leave them. If you are saying that he has added that to his game recently, then that is one thing. But to say that he has proven it seems difficult to believe.
I'll make sure to watch for that when practices start up, but I have never seen him look someone off in a game. If he has made that change and is keeping his head on a swivel, and intentionally looking off DB's, then that would be a BIG step forward for him.
I said so far he’s the best of the 3 at doing that and pushing the ball down field. Two things. Both probably not up to our standards but going into fall camp, I think he may be the best we have at those things. All that can change in flash over the next couple weeks are of course.
My guess is it’s not CM’s eyes necessarily, it’s the other half of the equation—pushing the ball down the field.ElrodGrizzly said:garizzalies said:Sorta. You’re close. I didn’t say proven or in games but I get the concern.

That is fair, I can't speak to McDowell's eyes at all. In the spring game I didn't feel like Vidlak locked on as hard as Brown has done, but I also obviously can't see his look offs from that vantage point as a fan, and you're right that you said the best out of the three without saying he was amazing at it. Fair play, you're right that I was talking past your point in some ways there.
My hope is that he is better in every facet. Nothing but love for a kid who has stuck it out and been a contributor to the program for this long.
Yea that’s what I thought too following that particular snapshot.uofmman1122 said:From what I saw of Vidlak and Brown in the spring, I don't agree with that assertion. That's just my take, though.

I don’t think it will be the 1+ running like bubz, unless CM gets a series. I am seeing a more traditional running team and passing on playaction which requires the QB to turn his back to the D. Not easy altho the QB usually only needs to find one or two targets once he gets his head back-around.mthoopsfan said:garizzalies said:Also, maybe it’s just me, but I think the WR room needs to step up altho Fontes can play. I agree with you on the receivers. I see that a number of you think we're going to be a running team, but I don't necessarily agree. I need to do some checking on that, because I don't know.
Copper Griz said:McDowell is being overlooked because of his late addition to the team. A major mistake and he will push Vidlak in fall camp. Two different styles, but just what the Griz need with their oline and running back scenario. Not like the kid doesn’t have an arm and cannot pass either. His biggest challenge is learning the playbook. Not that big of a challenge for him.

No one thing, and mostly rumor mill, so I could be way off. Guess we’ll see in the next 10 days or souofmman1122 said:What made you change your mind?garizzalies said:Yea that’s what I thought too following that particular snapshot.

Now I have questions! Is the budding political career of one of your co-hosts going to have an effect on pod production? I seriously miss the pod, especially on the longer drives I have to do for work.
It's just an excuse for Andrew Schmidt or Kyle Hansen to come on full time.BWahlberg said:PDXGrizzly said:Now I have questions! Haha, I don't know, honestly. I hope not! We joked with Mike before that even if he wins the Mayor's race he still has to do the pod.

We have a big enough body of evidence to prove he’s just not a BSC caliber QB. He’s a great teammate who goes out there when asked, but if somehow (based on PRACTICE performance) Bobby hangs his hat on Brown again this year to backup Vidlak and he falls on his face again I’m done with Bobby.
KB could be QB1 and you should start coming to terms with it rn. He knows the offense the best and so far is the only one of the three who can look off defenders and push the ball down the field.

BWahlberg said:Griz til I die said:I've heard rumblings that Gillman is the projected starter at RB. Guess he's really turned heads throughout the offseason.
I know they love this kid but this staff has a long held tendency to reward time in the program too. I'd be pretty shocked if it wasn't Ostmo or Harris as the "starter". Additionally I wouldn't be totally shocked if Gillman is the yardage leader by the season's end as he seems to have the highest ceiling in the group.
That said, I think if he stays healthy the whole season, X is going to be our main dude. He just looked the part this spring and I think he's physically at the point now where he can be a stud in this offense.
