Pre-fall camp discussion 1 - The offense

A couple corrections, Snowball Boy. AR-15 Ammo always comes first. Canadian making fun of us Second Amendment purists.
Secondly, no pun intended, it's meters. Gawd! Gotta take my red pen to correct your writing. And you being a teacher!
I like your reasoning about getting more yardage
out of a Canadian kid who thinks in METERS. He'll get 3.37 more inches per carry. By the end of the season, that really adds up! A thousand yard season means an eye extra 83.33 yards. That's worth the conference title right there, and a better seed in the playoffs. Home field advantage throughout, and all due to a Cannuck education. Whoda thunk it?
Both spellings are correct.

Halftime at the Mosaic, eh? Replying from your phone. GoRiders!
Standing ovation in my back yard, I'm actually by the fire. My GF's Mom is in surgery so staying by the phone. Had a few pre games with the boys before the game but didn't go myself. You made me laugh out loud. Not a big live on TV sports guy anymore, tend to catch the highlights on line. ;) Cheers!

So pre-camp discussion of the offence is only "who likes Kris Brown vs who doesn't"? That's some in-depth stuff right there.

I'll go a step further; I don't think the Gillman kid gets anywhere near the carries that many posters think. Coach Hauck is a "proven commodity" kind of guy, and he'll like Ostmo, X, and Childs, unless this kid is the Tyler Rose, Barry, and Reggie Bush in one package.

I think the O-line are veteran RPO massives and they won't suddenly become the '84 Redskins and start running pulling/traps. They will be good but if you think they'll become the Bobcats line you need to man up and buy a cable tv subscription. Will that mean less money for AR-15 ammo and poop Keystone Lite? Probably, but it's worth it. I don't mean they won't be as good as the Cat's line, just a different animal.

I think White will be the best receiver we've had since Toure. Partly because he's Canadian and therefore simply better but also because he's learned the patterns in metres instead of yards so each time he will further downfield, which equals longer receptions, which equals FIRST DOWN.......MONTANA!!!!

There is NEVER less money for AR 15 ammo. NEVER. AR 15, 9MM...and many, many others...come and take it.

Canadians still follow a king....gross.

Canadians should be band from talking about guns on eGriz. There's a country that seizes bank accounts of peaceful protesters. Why do we still let them live under an umbrella of protection?

I am not a Harris fan. He dances are around at the line of scrimmage too much. I heard he looked good at the spring game so maybe he has improved. My guess is Ostmo, Gillman, and Childs with Harris a distant 4th. I have been wrong before but I think Gillman will lead the pack.

I heard Harris put on some weight-maybe 10-15 lbs. and is a beast. I disagree with your dancing around comment. He's number two behind Ostmo, but Bobby's gonna give Ostmo, Harris, Gilman, and Childs all plenty of time on the field. Who's number one, two or three won't matter. It's going to be who's the hot hand.

And about the time someone DEVELOPS a hot hand, he’ll be subbed in for.

A treasured experience for me is to observe that a thread on here has blown up to over 100 posts in a relatively short amount of time, and then click straight to the last page and begin reading. This place never, and I mean NEVER, disappoints.

Why shouldn’t a thread about the defense evolve into a discussion on AR-15 ammo?

I don’t know. That Ostmo big game last year was a pretty good example of “hot hand”. I get what you’re saying though.

Our guy #55, future all conference left tackle and Merlot over the hill in the gallatin are on Feldmans list of 101 Freak athletes in all of college football. Color me not surprised at all. Here is the link if you have the Athletic - perhaps someone who does have a subscription might post it here?

Here are the two players from our in state universities. Also, as a side, if you like sports journalism you should absolutely subscribe to The Athletic. It is, in my opinion, the best sports journalism out there. Their in depth pieces are great.

70. Tommy Mellott, Montana State, quarterback
The Bobcats staff raves about him, like to the level you rarely hear coaches talk about a player. So let the gushing begin. MSU offensive coordinator Taylor Housewright: “He has a 4.0 in engineering, 6 percent body fat, a 39-inch vert, is 210 pounds. Smartest QB I have ever been around, 4.3 40-yard dash. Smartest human alive. Will be president of United States. Every father wants their daughter to date him. Every mother wants to adopt him. Every wife wants him to be their husband’s idol. Hardest worker in the room (this room includes Tim Tebow, Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Derek Jeter).”

Montana State head coach Brent Vigen: “He’s a Freak in every which way” — academically, in community service, in the weight room and on the field.

The 6-0, 209-pound Mellott, only entering his junior season, has 1,984 career rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. He’s passed for almost 2,200 yards. His 5+10-yard fly time this summer was 1.16 seconds. For perspective, former MSU star Troy Andersen’s fastest was 1.22. Andersen, now with the Falcons, ran a 4.42 40 with a 1.51 10-yard split before going as a second-round pick.

98. Chris Walker, Montana, offensive tackle
He began his college career at Nebraska in 2017 and eventually moved to the defensive line before transferring to Montana last year, starting 13 games at left tackle. Walker, at 6-6, 300 pounds, is expected to be a first-team All-Big Sky player this year and an NFL prospect. He bench-presses 445 pounds, power-cleans 335 and also vertical-jumped 28.5 inches. His feet are very impressive. This summer, he had a 10-yard split of 1.62 and 2.93 in the 20.

Did CDA write the blurb on Mellott?

Nice quote in the article from Coach HouseParty.

MSU offensive coordinator Taylor HouseParty: “When I'm not drunk so let's see...maybe a day last January... he looks like a pretty good QB to me. Hey, do you have a flask on ya by chance?

Yea, the article isn't filled with any other weird quotes like that. I think he got Housewright on the phone while he was drinking one night, to be honest.

Exactly where my mind went.

It certainly reads like the words of a man 5 or 6 deep into the night.

Yea, that isn't a normal quote to give a reporter, even jokingly. And nothing like it appears anywhere else in the article. It takes the exaggeration so far that it isn't even a good compliment to Mellott. Just an odd, odd quote to give a reporter about your QB.

Seem like it's safe to assume that the interview took place in the drive-through lane at the Magic Diamond Liquor Store in Belgrade.

I know one thing: If he's the smartest person alive, he probably wouldn't be willing to be a running QB for Bozeman State with multiple concussions. Just my take.
