Potentail ambush game....

I know your shtick is rainbows and unicorns, but in no universe does their Head Football Coach make 30,000. None. Every or nearly every head HS football coach in Texas clears 100,000 for crying out loud.

This Ferris Team WILL repeat as DII champs this year. They have put more players in the NFL than the Griz in the recent past.

Many of their starters would land in the two-deep on the Griz roster. Some would start. They would beat every team in the bottom half of the BSC.

The Griz better be prepared to compete when they come to town.

Many made this point about the salary, and I will again admit I was wrong. I googled, and it was wrong. I should have looked for a better source. I went with confirmation bias. That was my bad. 100%. Their coach makes WAY more than I had said. No excuses. I was just flat wrong.

I will say, though, you are cherry picking with Texas coaches salary. There are NAIA coaches in Montana not making six figures. Texas is a special beast of football coaching. You can't compare that to anywhere other than the deep southeast in terms of competition, and even that is a stress. There is a reason that they make movies and TV shows about "Texas Football."

You're right that they have starters that would be on our two deep. I don't disagree. I believe, though, that our two deep would start at nearly every position for them.

I'm sure they will repeat as DII champs. Good for them. All power to them. And they will put players in the NFL. DII players can do that. But sometimes great NFL players are not the same as great college players, for a lot of reasons. Heck, the greatest Griz QB of all time never did it in the NFL, and I wouldn't trade him and his MT career for anyone.

As for the rest of that, don't put me on a schtick. I can admit plenty of faults, just not the ones some folks throw out that don't make sense. ;)

I can't imagine any NAIA coach in MT makes $100,000, but I don't know.

D-II teams can have very good players, but almost never have a full team (starters) of very good players. Of course, they can produce some NFL players. I can't imagine that many of the many Ferris players who supposedly signed NFL contracts, made the NFL. However, I'd be happy to learn that I'm wrong.

Even a handful of their players starting for UM, doesn't make them a winning team.

UM got caught flat-footed and let transitioning NDSU come from behind and beat us by 1. Obviously, the Bison were a team on the rise.

If Ferris is really very good, and they obviously have been good, they could give the Griz a game if the Griz aren't ready, or if the Griz aren't as good as most of us thing they will be.

I'm good with the game. I applaud Haslam for scheduling it. If the Griz get beat, I am going to call for Haslam's head. Joke.

I will miss the game. Will be watching the New Zealand All-Blacks take on Namibia in Toulouse France in the Rugby World Cup.

No, you just don't get how this works. These guys would be a top-15 FCS team, but losing to them would be worse than losing to Drake. Or UNC.

Beating them means nothing, but they're extremely good and would probably make the FCS playoffs right now, so we'd better be prepared for a game.

But don't be too happy if we win, because we should always win this game because D2 teams are never good.

In short, they're an amazing team we should be worried about before the game starts, but after the game, they suck and either outcome is awful for us.

Hope this helps. :thumb:

I don't know who said any of those things. All I ever said is there is no upside to scheduling this game. Griz win - they should. Griz lose - oh crap.

No upside and no help for playoff formula.

They are good. Griz will get tested.
Definitely not singling out anyone with my post, but I do find the dissonance about their team kind of funny around here. I have seen people say they would make the FCS playoffs or be top 15-25 in FCS. That seems like a good team to bring in for an OOC game, IMO.

We should beat them, and I expect we will, but if they're that good, why are we ashamed of this game? They don't count towards the 7-win threshold for the playoffs, but we already know that's just a guideline and not an actual rule. Would we really be better off playing a team like Stetson? Fucking Stetson???

Like honestly, if winning this game is the difference between us making or missing the playoffs with our weak D1 schedule this year, then we don't deserve to make it and Ferris doesn't matter, anyway. If we beat Ferris and lose 4 other games this year, that's worse than what happened last year.

Ferris might make it look like a game for the 1st quarter, then start to deteriorate in 2nd and then griz destroy them. That's how this gonna go.

That’s what the Washington fans said when we played them. Remember that game?

Washington also ended up being a pretty bad team. A great win for the griz but, didn't they finish the year with 4 wins? Griz will win and I'll put money on that.

This can’t be real… please don’t lose this game. We need our SOS higher for seeding.

Try to stay in the top 25.

Yeah, sitting at 7-4 that SOS will be big for the bubs. Not sure it'll be enough, however. Particularly with a 60 point defeat in Missoula.

Definitely NOT Stetson!

But, ANY D1 team would be better.

I'm glad we are pumping this game as fans...we need to pack Wa Griz. They are consensus pre-season D2 #1.

Doesn't change the fact that they give out 85 schollies, we give out 63, they had more 4-star athletes than we had 2-star...etc., etc. Yet we went into their house and beat them.

Anyone who doesn't think this game is a risk is kidding themselves. And Addict, how many points are you giving? I might be interested in a side bet...

Me too. Elrod has it as Griz -20...If I read his post correctly.

I gotta agree with SoldierGriz about pay. Don't know about Texas, but a full-time clerk at Town Pump, if there is full-time work, makes around $30,000.
And, yes, the Griz better be prepared! :thumb:

You absolutely did read it correctly. Maybe I am really am too much sunshine and rainbows, but I haven't been this excited about our offense in a few years. I think we come out strong. But maybe I have my head up my ass. We will see! I'm thinking it is somewhere in the range of 30-7.

As for the discussion about salary, ZipRecruiter lists the average head coach salary in Montana at $42,000 a year. I don't know how much that is worth, but its what turned up there.

I just saw an interview with the president of Ferris State University (game 3). The Bulldogs are two-time Div II National Champions in Football. Their record over the last three years is 56-3. Four of the last five years they were in the finals. They are returning a lot of starters and hoping for a Three-peat.
They have had 14 players sign NFL contracts over the last 5 years and 5 are still active.
He specifically mentioned stepping up and taking on FCS competition and traveling to Missoula. These guys aren't coming in to look at mountains.
They have a great staff and lots of studs. Ferris has some less strenuous academic programs that allow them to bring in Big Ten talent. Guys that wouldn't even get a look from any Big Ten schools because of grades.
I hope our lads and staff aren't thinking this will be a scrimage. It sort of reminds me of Hauck's first year when a bunch from NDSU came in and left with a "W" :x
It's a black out night game so show up and be loud.

Are you new here?

Yes, he's new, other than having played for the Griz, Griz Granny being his grandma, and perhaps being from Michigan where Ferris St. is.

Something to chew on:

"It should also be noted that Ferris, as dominant as it is, doesn’t often square off with DI opponents. The last time they did they clashed with one of the best teams to ever grace an FCS field with the 2013 North Dakota State unit led by Carson Wentz. The Bison, expectedly, won that game in a rout 56-10."

When was the last time you hung 60 on anyone?

You gave up a 55 and a 49 burger last year. Nobody scared of that defense…

KB did pass for 72 yards against webs and I think your RB added another 23 yards to almost make it an even 100 of offense for your top rushing and passing. Hopefully that duo doesn’t drop those numbers on us in November or we’re in big trouble!!

November 12, 2022. Literally just four games ago.

Oh nice. Sorry, was looking at scores against. Looks like we hung 55 and NDSU 49… whoops. Almost gave your offense some credit!

Things must be really slow on BobcatNation.

Court hearing day. Don't look for any updates from the local Bozeman media or MSU. None of it happened. It was aliens.

 Good grief...the 2023 Griz are not anywhere near the UNSDSU bison led by wentz....and at the time they were not the consensus #1 preseason and 2-time defending champs out of their bracket.

Wow. Elrod in at Griz -23. That's a dream bet right there.

Guarantee Vegas is not -23 at game time. But, maybe Elrod is our new ace-in-the-hole!

I have absolutely no doubt you are right that Vegas will not do that. Like I said, maybe you hit the nail on the head and I am too full of sunshine and rainbows about this team. But I am excited about them, and I see the logic in my head for us having a MUCH better season this year even if the defense takes a small step back.

But, hey, I'm saying it publicly so that I am on record and you can commence the mockery if I turn out to be wrong.
