Any chance that you have video of Joey Counts destroying the NAU cb on the run he had in the 2nd? Qtr?

Good-Bad by the numbers:

Chalich was 29 in 45 attempts (64%, not bad) for almost 280 yards ... for a 6.4 yard per catch average. With this style of offense, that’s not bad. Jamaal had the longest gain for 56, Hendie had one for 39 -- that will cause concern for future defensive coordinators.

A bunch of backs got carries and gained nearly 200 net yards among them. Worked out to an average of 4.4 yards per carry. Not great, but not bad. Bad part: Only one really long gain (JN for 22 yards).
Be nice if we could spring a breakaway run now and then.

Good: Kicker 3/3 on FG, 2/2 on extra points. Not so good: Punter averaged 39 yards per kick. We are consistently losing net in the punting game.

Better: Time of possession essentially even-steven.
Need to fix: 8 penalties for 60 yards ... not a huge number of yards lost, but almost every penalty hurt out of all proportion to the yardage lost. (Hard to make first downs/score when you shoot yourself in the foot.)

Win is a win, but -- as several have said -- the Griz still have lots to clean up.

It's funny, there are earlier posts on this sight where the Griz ran for over a hundred and some "fans" kept saying; yeah but it was all on one run. Then when the lads get in the trenches and grind it out there are others who say "Be nice if we could spring a breakaway". Not being critical of this post, just think its funny how no matter how our Griz sort out a win, there will always be the ones who think it would be better to win differently.

Jeez. I guess you're on some kind mission. I read a few of your posts today. Pent up frustration? Calm down. It's early....

Anyone notice the players didn't seem quite as excited about the win today at the end of the game? Could be wrong. Could be because the crowd wasn't it's usual self either.

- The fans today needed a boost – maybe it was the heat… or too much pregame festivities. It seemed like a struggle to get the crowd amped up –especially at key moments.

Solid write-up as usual BW.
For what it's worth, the crowd sounded really loud during the first half on TV. The second half had the usual situation with fans and tailgating, but did the lackluster offensive performance until the final drive also contribute to the "unloudness" if you will?

Part of the reason for the short punt average is because we were trying to pin them inside the 20 on many of the punts and they did not need to be any longer
If the stats I saw were correct our punter had 0 inside the 20.

Thought there was one... But maybe not

Linder had great hang time on his punts though, most were very high up - preventing much of a return.

at 2:30 left in the 3rd we punted from there 40, fair catch at the ten...with a penalty there started on the 5

Kidder went down the next play

Some need to relax! If you can't then try taking two aspirin.

We will slowly begin to get better on the offensive side of the ball. It will take repitition in practice and it will amount to a ton of hard work by all the team members. Like Brint mentioned we saw hints of great offensive play and when the guys can all get on the same page we will be able to rest the defense and perhaps become one hell of a good team. It is called time.... for all you Johny Quick Shots!

Darkside...I love it.

The Griz O is coming along nicely, all things considered: new system, many new starters, and our second QB in four games. I particularly like Chalich's completion percentage, and having five other guys besides Jamaal and Ellis making catches is another plus (with Roberts and Naccarato getting 11 between them). With over 470 yards of offense, you cannot say they were unproductive ... they just need to turn more red-zone trips into TDs rather than FGs (eliminating drive-killing false-start penalties would help a lot). We know Stitt is an innovator ... I kinda look forward to him devising some cool stuff to help this team, these players, get into the end zone more in those situations.

Center snaps are a significant issue. Not only does it contribute to increased pressure on pass plays, but it is also messing up the timing on running plays. There are plays were the rb has to hesitate while he waits for the qb to get the snap. The slow, inaccurate, floating snaps also make it difficult to put the sweep guy in motion. Several of Stitts plays are runoff of the sweep motion. I don't understand why this can't be fixed with practice. It's inexcusable at this level.

You are right!

I'd bet big money Stitt wishes he didn't have to end up putting in a walk on tight end that was converted to a guard, then had to be recently converted to a center.....

But, dang it, he did OK in his first Griz game....Sprunk has some great Missoula Roots and in all actuality did far better than anyone should have expected

How does Mrs. Umista feel about you using her pet name for you in an eGriz post?

Yamen Sanders was an absolute crucial pick up for us in the offseason. His athleticism and physical play makes the secondary light years better.

Anyone is an improvement over Hermanson, dear god that boy drove me insane

Yeah, Hermie was just a four-time All-Conference player (which is voted on by the opposing head coaches in the Big Sky), and a two-time FCS All-American, not to mention a top-notch student, and one of the Griz' all-time leading tacklers. Yeah, he sucked bad.

The kid had one bad season (2012) but due to lack of depth he plays through it, all while injured most of the season and some fans never forgive him for it.

Hammer meet nail. Overall, Hermannson was a great player for the GRIZ. I loved how he consistently hit hard and always a factor in defending the running game. He had a great knack for being near the ball often. His Sophomore year was terrible, and it has been acknowledged as to why. The kid played through a very bad injury.

A couple observations...from my vantage point high in the NEZ, Nguyen made the proper play letting that one rugby punt go. There was a bunch of traffic from both teams in the area where the ball was coming down and the ball was flopping around like a freshly landed fish. On the big plays surrendered, Ty brings the pressure and leaves the corners singled up, so they will be vulnerable if the pressure is picked up.

I don't think that is correct. I think you are probably right re the man coverage part, but I do not think there was a blitz called for the two big TDs (not sure about the 29-yard pass play). It looked to me like these two big plays were some kind of base D with man coverage; only the DLs rushed while the LBs sat back. If so, it's really not surprising we got burned. Or maybe it was a zone and the safety F'd up.
