Post Game: The element of surprise

At the end of the game, No. Iowa appeared to be a better team than UM. UNI stopped UM in the 2nd half and scored at will. Griz could not even stop 2 UNI point conversions.

Griz are fortunate that it took UNI a half before they got untracked. Good coaching helped UM win a game where they were not the best team.

Not my original thought, but shared with me by another Griz fan after the game. Farley has a track record for coaching errors that cost him games and one could argue his poor clock management and wasted timeouts in the 2nd half were what cost them the game.

I'm not totally sure but if UNI got the ball back with 2:00(ish) to play, I'd think they'd be pushing for either a tie or the win at the very end. Instead, wasting timeouts on a punt formation late in the game and at other key moments, they watched the Griz convert a 1st down and kneel out the clock.

The “better” team didn’t stop Montana from getting a first down with time running out. We were better on that play and it made the difference... Also the “better” team put the ball on the ground something like 5 times or more. We were whacking them....
Montana won this game with grit and determination with very young men who proved they were the better team by scoring 26 points vs. 23.

Great win leaving the coaching staff a lot of things to “go over” in practice.
Nice work Montana even if you weren’t the “better” team.

The Griz were clearly the better team yesterday. Totally outplayed and shut down NI in first half. NI had 47 yards. Averaged 2.6 yards rushing for game. NI was lucky to have recovered all 4 of its official fumbles, and have 2 more with the runner declared down. NI had one pick, but there were a couple more that almost were picked. NI got the benefit of a crucial bad spot on a big 4th down play and the benefit of some questionable PI calls.

UM should have generated more offense and played better D in the second half, but the game was never in doubt in the second half.

I don't know if you didn't see the game, or never played the game, or don't understand the game, or are just trolling. But you are dead wrong in your comment.

Couldn’t disagree more. Is the glass half full or half empty? A couple dropped passes, a couple of recovered fumbles, a couple of correct referee calls and a couple of silly special teams errors corrected and this game isn’t close. UNI was totally outplayed in virtually every phase of the game.

Farley’s horrible use of timeouts and piss poor clock management also played into their loss.

The fact UNI put in their back up quarterback but our defense behind the eight ball in the second half. I think if they left their original qb in the game then the defense would’ve played at the level they played the first half at. Also we need to remember our best defensive player didn’t play much. We beat the 13th ranked team with a new head coach and a young team. The blessing in disguise is we learned a lot of lessons because of that second half and still got the W.

Something I liked seeing that I haven't seen mentioned yet: kickoffs going into the endzone! Adam Wilson seemed to be booming those kicks. I think UNI returned only 3 of 6 kickoffs (correct me if I'm wrong). No wonder Bobby brought this guy in.

This is a discipline issue, the little things make a difference in game time. I believe in the last few years we would have been out of time outs as well at that point in the game.

Good win. Have things to work on, but positive attitude going forward. O-LINE needs work, but the big boys with some good instruction can improve. Germer needs to go to work now that he sees whats needed.

You are 100% correct, but anyone who has ever seen a uni team play should not be surprised.

Even a bumble brain like you should recognize that first and second halfs were very different. At the end of the game UNI was the better team (IMO). UM could not stop UNI at the end, and could not move the ball on UNI. I'm glad UM got that last first down that enabled them to run the clock out. If they had not done that, UM woud have been in trouble.

Poor coaching for UNI (especially using all their timeouts), and good coaching for UM, kept UNI from eaking out a win at the end.

I have a right to offer my opinion on the game, and could care less that an arrogant douchebag like you disagrees with my comment. You are a dickhead. :!:

Three observations I had (other than what Brint posted)

1. Student section looked like it was rocking tonight. They were back for the third quarter too. Good to see that again, hasn't been the same since last time Hauck was here.

2. Sneed was too quick to give up on the pass and go to the run. It's a strong part of his game, but he needed to sit a second longer on a couple plays.

3. Hauck has some new tricks up his sleeves. From the Curran to Bingham play to the pass-pass-pass final series, the guy has polished his game. Very excited to see what else he has in store.

Agreed especially on point #2. Seemed to happen quite a bit in the 2nd half.

On at least two of those plays int he second JLM and once Curran made a move right as Sneed took off that sprung them open. If Sneed had hung on just a split second longer they would of had the opportunity at a home run shot.

I saw some of those 2. I thought he took off about 5 or 6 too many times.
