Post Game: Live to play another game

I think we need Brady if we are going to win these next two games. We scored 21 offensive points yesterday, that won't cut it against EWu and MSu.

Additionally, we need a safety to step up and actually make a play on the ball and make a tackle when a runner gets to the second level.

If Jeremy Calhoun and Keenan Curran are any indication, Stitt's first recruiting class is going to be sick. Kurran is one hell of an athlete. Calhoun is tough to tackle and appears to have some speed too, can't wait to see what this guy can do with another year in the weight room and getting coached up by Justin, Stitt, and Germer.

Wildcat with Curran. I'm only halfway joking.

Glad we came out with a W. What I don't get is why did our offensive play book have to be that predictable ? Their#21 feasted on the same redundant running plays. Pee Wee offenses mix it up more on running plays than what we saw yesterday from the Griz. Is Stitt intentionally holding back? While I will get jumped by some that will say they it takes time to adjust to the new system, too much of what we saw yesterday was so predictable. Why not mix it up more? Looking forward to EWU!

The person playing the QB position is why the offense looks the way it does....It is very apparent that Stitt has very little confidence in Simis and the play calling demonstrates that.
Spot on balls accurate. This staff has absolutely no confidence in Makena Simis to run this offense and it shows with the play calling. If Gus or Chalich ain't back next week there is no fricken way they beat Eastern.....even at home.

Question: In watching Oregon's offense last night, I seemed to noticed a big difference the speed at which there "up tempo" offense clicked off plays. I am aware they have had that system in place a lot longer than we have, but it is the first year for VA running the Oregon system. I see in at least two places on this thread where our "up tempo" scheme is in use. In recent games it just doesn't seem to me that our offense is operating at an "up tempo" speed. Are we ?

That was one part where I was confused as well.

As the coaches probably saw it, ISU sucks against the run and we had the zone read working earlier in the day. Additionally Simis had previously made some bad throwing decisions on 3rd down and 4th down. So Stitt assumed that the Bengals would not expect another zone read run, and worst case the clock would keep running.

I saw Gus make some questionable throws against NDSU and Cal Poly and Liberty too. Chalich was inconsistent, and now Simis is prone to " made some bad throwing decisions on 3rd down and 4th down."
Is Pflug going to be the answer next year ?

I am not sure the answer is currently on the roster...

This. We need a QB or this offense is very pedestrian. An OL would be nice if were taking requests. :thumb:

Those who believed Stitt was an offensive genius and it was a matter of time before he made the proper adjustments should feel real encouraged by the game yesterday. For in the second half the guru masterminded a way to play prevent offense.

Take a look at his junior year video. One thing I noticed is that he doesn't t telegraph his throws. While it is high school and his number 1 is open, he frequently goes through his progressions and targets his 2nd or 3rd options. That's rare. His ball placement was excellent too. Some highlights for QBs show receivers having to make plays on prayer balls. Pflug's passes are very well placed and WR don't have to do anything special to catch them.

With the current situation and blocking up front Drew Bree's would have issues. Until this is corrected the QB will be scrutinized.

Great write Up Brint......hope next weeks has the same result. Just win :thumb:

UM is generally not running up-tempo with Simis. He apparently needs more time to execute the plays, even with a less complicated offense. The offense is now more spread without up-tempo, or much up-tempo.

Kramer: "Both quarterbacks you could see were pretty young. They're a little unsure of themselves. it was not an upper-tier game by either quarterback and that's why the game was so exciting at the end."

Those were Stitt decisions.

The two most-used words when Brady played were "overthrew" and "miscommunication."

Hm, ok. Thanks for the response.

I find it hard to believe that Simis hasn't learned the offense by now? Also, it isn't really a confidence builder to have the coach yelling at him when he comes off the field. Not cool with a young athlete....

I don't think it is so much an issue of learning the offense....it has more to do with his ability to execute the offense....2 totally different things
