I find it hard to believe that Simis hasn't learned the offense by now? Also, it isn't really a confidence builder to have the coach yelling at him when he comes off the field. Not cool with a young athlete....

Coaches are people experiencing frustration the same as the players. At least he was showing passion and fire rather than being ho hum.

I don't think it is so much an issue of learning the offense....it has more to do with his ability to execute the offense....2 totally different things

And, ideally, executing the offense fast, i.e. in hurry-up mode. Simis ran well and is obviously a good runner, but he made some wrong/bad decisions by not giving the ball to the back. Stitt was critical, post-game, of Simis not handing off in OT. The coaches/Stitt asked Simis to do less, in terms of tougher passing and passing decisions, this week. Delaney said UM probably asked Simis to do too much against PSU.

One of the more bizarre decisions was to go hurry up on the 4th down goal line play when the previous play should be reviewed and would have been reviewed as it looked like a Calhoun touchdown. A definite WTF moment.

Well I get that, but Christ, when it's a potential TD, I'd think a moment to review might be prudent. Especially given the outcome on the NEXT play.

I believe that Stitt had already used his replay challenge, so he could not.

I believe on the prior series Stitt used and lost his challenge on a catch by ISU's WR so he didn't have the opportunity to request one here

Agreed, learning the offense is one thing. Deciding to run when there's wide open receivers in front of you and deciding to pass when you need a few yards and have a wide lane in front of you aren't "learning the offense." Seeing a blitz on the opposite side of a screen and not changing the the play which leads to a throw away pass. All of that is identifying what's going on around you and executing what the system has empowered you to do.

Two observations: Griz ran the ball for short yardage on first down almost every series in the second half. A little creativity on first down, maybe? Second, why not just spot the other team 7 pts and start the first quarter at the 10:00 mark?

Emotion on the sideline is completely different from never giving up on plays, focus, fighting for every reception (which we all really saw earlier in the year), wanting to be in on every tackle. That is the kind of thing I didn't see yesterday. I think the players see their year coming apart. I think it gets harder to prepare, harder to stay in every play when you see the head coach fighting with the QB, the quarterback blaming recievers etc. What I saw was players with no belief in the game plan, the coaches or each other.

Our Red Zone Offense has been tepid at best this year and two other things occurred to me on this goal line series from yesterday:
1) Why are we going with Nguyen in this package on the goal line instead of Calhoun? It sure appears that Calhoun is a much better straight ahead hard runner
2) Why in the world does Simis keep pulling the ball on that goal line read? He did it twice yesterday, both times with terrible results.

You could interpret that from watching on TV or sitting in the stands? You should take your talent on the road and make some real money with that.

The much heralded fly sweep? Tavon Austin doesn't play for the Griz. He plays in St. Louis. For all extensive purposes, HE is the fly sweep.....

I went back and reviewed the game. On the goal line stand that we went hurry up on 4th down instead of reviewing the 3rd down run that looked to be a Nguen TD, Stitt still had his review available since the challenge he used was two series later on the Idaho State catch.
No doubt he should have waited to see if the play would have been reviewed and if not, call his challenge.
Looking at it several times, it sure looks like Nguen falls on the goal line for a TD.
As I mentioned earlier, a real head scratcher of a decision to be in such a hurry to run the 4th down play.
