Post Game: Legacy

It was great to see what this offense is capable of and to see the D stand tall. Also any cat that claims injuries as an excuse is not looking at both sides we have some bad ones too and it didn't seem to hurt us. Next man up!

When we looked, we could see a bunch of six foot plus dudes in maroon warm up suits and realized, with a quick check at gogriz.com, that the round ball team was in town. They were shouting out to the football team. So we got off the wheel and had a couple snifters of Glenlivet at Fishermans and in a few minutes the entire bball team showed up. It's always great to see the GRIZ pride when you're away from MTown and least expect it. It was a great unexpected chance encounter.
Last Spring, I was down on the Waterfront in Seattle, and had my Griz pullover on. People walking past would nod approvingly, and shout "Go Griz!" The attendant at Ivars really wanted to talk about the Griz.

Great write up Brint and agree with all of your commentary. One thing that cannot be overlooked about MD and his staff - RECRUITING. The cupboard is not bare and if anything they have left the program in excellent condition for the next HC. How many recruits were on the sidelines yesterday or watching on ROOT? Talk about closing the deal. I would think those that committed are now even more excited to be Griz and those on the fence just got a little bit more motivated. Congrats to MD/staff, the seniors, the entire team and all of Griz Nation. The future looks bright.

Excellent post Brint as usual. It is great to finally see the Griz team show up that we all knew existed. I have been very vocal about coaching this year. My hats off to the coaching staff for having the team ready to execute today.

So was this kind of a rope-a-dope on offense? Cats had no clue this much zone read was coming. Especially with a dinged up JJ. It worked to perfection. Love it

....So struggle and suck horribly at times all year on O just to lower the puddy's guard.....I like it Mick's a damn genius.....yeah probably not. I credit the shackles being removed from JJ...and look how the team blossomed....

It's just kind of interesting, people on here have been bitching that Mick is too stubborn with his game plan. Then boom suddenly we roll out zone read and blow the doors off the cats.

"After the game, defensive end Zack Wagenmann, who set a record for career sacks at Montana (33.5) with one in the second half, confided that his coach’s impending retirement provided some extra incentive.

“Coach means a lot to all of us,” he said. “He recruited a lot of us. He has been through everything with us, through thick and thin. And it means a lot to us to send him out the right way.”

What a great game for GRIZ NATION to experience!!!!!!

The coaches did great on both sides of the ball. The players kicked ass and executed on both sides of the ball. Their was so much intensity from every SR. I will never forget Mitch Saylor trucking the would be Cat tackler. The defense stuffed the run, and pressured Bleskin all game. When the Cats did threaten to score the defense just sucked it up, and showed the Cats, "Not today, not in our house"!!!!!

Offensively, we finally got to see the offense most GRIZ fans wanted to see the last 2 years. We saw how damn great JJ is when the reigns are taken off him. The GRIZ passing game mixed things up well. Establishing JJ as a threat to run opened up the offense greatly from the get go. In turn, JJ consistently had time to make plays, rather it be with his feet, or his arm. This is the offense the GRIZ need to commit to in the playoffs. If the GRIZ commit to this offense, Mick Delaney will end his career with a solid playoff run.

Speaking of Delaney, it was so great to see how motivated every player was to make sure Delaney was sent out in class. It took him until his final regular season game to finally adjust game planning and strategy to the strengths of his personnel.

Brint summed it up well, really not much to add to it. I was so amazed to see how many SR's had huge impacts. Saylor was huge on offense, and showed so much passion. I really hope he is more utilized in the playoffs. JJ was the unquestioned leader. He showed he still is one of the best players in the FCS. Wags got the sack record, but came up with big plays at key moments. He could not be contained. Hermannson had as fine of a game as possible. Rehm and Takai dominated the middle all game. Takai's interception was icing on the cake for him, and his fellow Sr's. I could not help but want to see Haynes make a big play. These Sr's have shown every young player how to be leaders, and that will be impactful for next season. As for next season, I have a feeling that could be delayed a little longer with a surprising playoff run. That playoff run dependent upon which GRIZ coaching staff shows up?

Speaking of showing up, way to go GRIZ NATION. I did not see or hear of one GRIZ fan being idiotic, classless, etc to Cat fans. I heard many GRIZ fans complimenting Cat fans and encouraging them going into the playoffs. I really got filled with GRIZ pride in the 2nd half when our fans remained loud and proud for our defense to the end. I was proud of seeing GRIZ fans stand for a lot of the 2nd half. I was proud GRIZ fans put the team 1st this game, ahead of tailgating. That atmosphere and attitude is what GRIZ NATION should commit to every game.

To top the day off, the university treated the players and fans to a 1st class fireworks display. That field looked damn cool with the fireworks, lights, and special effects. For this GRIZ fan, this GRIZ/Cat game will be the game I measure every GRIZ/Cat game against. This game was by far my best GRIZ regular season experience. I will never forget this game thanks to a perfect GRIZ game day storm. Well done GRIZ NATION, players, coaches, university........I thank each and every one in GRIZ NATION!!!!!!

one player who has not been mentioned much is kose,,,,,when they evaluate film, it will be the physical play of kose who set the standard.....he was the proverbial man among boys yesterday.......now the playoffs....go griz...

I did not think we would spank the cats like we did. I did think we needed one guy to step up and play over the top. Instead almost every Griz player was way over the top. Fantastic game played by the kids. Then to save the spread read offense for this game was a coaching A+ for Mick Delaney and his assistants. Ty Gregorak saved the multi blitz defense for this game and I am proud of him for the job he did. The special teams were far better than at any point this season. The entire team played with class and won with class!

Plenty of "wow" to go around for the entire program. I am so damn glad Mick is able to go out with such a fantastic win over the cats. Cats should do well after they regroup. They are a very good team and I hate to admit it and I expect them to win and perhaps scare hell out of North Dakota State.

In my thread title "What I saw..." I gave a shout out to the LB core in general for their speed and physical play, but not Kose in particular. He and Van Ack had MONSTER games, for sure.

Good post Brint, thanks. Also, thanks for your weekly scouting reports. They are really specific and detailed and they do help me get ready for the game. I'm sure they are a lot of work to produce and I appreciate them.

NDSU will steamroll them if they manage to get past SDSU.

Mick has won a lot of championships at every level, Big Sky, WAC, Mountain West, NAIA, High School. The man is a WINNER.

He proudly said after the Griz mauling of Bozeman: "Today was probably the most special day in my whole coaching career because of what these young men and our coaches did today."

Mick knows how important the Griz vs cat game is to the state of Montana. He said, "I went to this game in Butte back in the late 40's when they played in Butte. Both teams came on the train and played at Naranche stadium in Butte in the dirt. So, you know it's something that's really, really special for me."

What I love most about Mick is every week there is a Griz player on the tv news saying, "Coach Delaney has done so much for me." (Most recently national post season award nominee Zach Waggs, and Trevor Rhem)

I wasn't hearing all of his post-game press conference, but heard Mick say something to the effect about him kind of going on and on about how pleased he was with the team, and trying to shut himself off ... "well, you know what they say about handing an Irishman a microphone."

... Watching this game on a regional broadcast in Seattle, I was amazed at how well they looked and how well GRIZ nation represented on TV under the lights for the second half. Even w some empty seats early in the second, the stadium, team, fans, noise...it was all there, and we looked awesome on TV. ROOT did a good job for a change, and there was an inescapable feeling that the GRIZ are back.

Here's what crystallized that for me:

After sitting two hours at the bottom of the east side of Snoqualmie pass with I90 closed, and no data access or radio to speak of, we finally got to Seattle in time to catch the end of the first half. We were overjoyed to see we were up 27-0. We watched the GRIZ roll the poor cats and headed downtown in good spirits. While having some shrimp cocktail, pan fried Parmesan shrimp, and a couple nice pales at the Sound Room, we decided to take a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel. After we were loaded up, we thought we heard the distinct chant of "Grizzlies Grizzlies!" When we looked, we could see a bunch of six foot plus dudes in maroon warm up suits and realized, with a quick check at gogriz.com, that the round ball team was in town. They were shouting out to the football team. So we got off the wheel and had a couple snifters of Glenlivet at Fishermans and in a few minutes the entire bball team showed up. Go GRIZ.

PS. Look for the Coyle/GRIZ signs tomorrow!
Hey guy ... you and your fellow-sufferers with the pass closure just made the Weather Channel. They had a long piece where they interviewed people stuck in the jam, and found out what they were doing to pass the time. Pretty funny -- I assume they picked interviews with people who were pretty good-humored about the mess. (I have to believe there were some pretty piss-off people out there too.)
