This place would be the total opposite had one of those 4th downs converted and either was a TD, or became a TD.
That didn't happen did it; with a third string QB in his first game, the probability was not so hot. The FGs were a pretty sure bet and would have been about the equivalent of the elusive TD you're dreaming about. The kind of "unconventional coaching" that turns W's to L's.... Like it all you want; most Griz fans don't.

Likely field goals.. maybe. These are still college kickers. Field goals still wouldn't stopped Weber from ramming it down our throats for a good part of the game. The one 4th and 2 the QB missed a wide open receiver right in front of him (and would have been a conversion), but instead threw a low probability pass to the sideline which went incomplete. I'd say execution, more than scheme, has been a problem all season.

Pflu coaches at Phoenix College, with another very experienced (head) coach. http://www.phoenixcollege.edu/employees/11572/pflugrad

Yes, I recall our conversation a few weeks ago.. you mentioned that it wasn't exactly an ideal place to be a coach.

It may well be that the BSC teams are closer to parity than a lot of us have thought. For example, eGrizzers were predicting outlandish Griz wins over Davis & Weber. Maybe it's time for a reality check and to live with it. No, the season is not down the tubes, but there are rightfully questions not only re: the O, but the D, as well. BSC teams know by now they can run the ball up the gut on the Griz D. It happened in the Davis game, 4 consecutive 1st downs up the gut on the Griz D. Weber succeeded here, as well, not to the extent Davis did.

Others have noted the turmoil this team and program have been thru since Hauck left. Now, the Griz have a permanent, highly recommended coach, who must work with the personnel he has, and decimation of the QB ranks has tested the depth chart, severely. But, Simis did a serviceable job vs. Weber. The past 4 years may have no effect on the current staff and players, so that may be a non-sequitur.

This is a year of adjustment and learning for Coach Stitt and his charges. I still believe the Griz will be in the playoffs, because they have the talent, and I'm sure Coach Stitt has learned a few things in these 1st games that may alter his ideas on playing the game at this level. I hope so.

But, Coach Gregorak has to do something to shut down teams from gaining huge yardage by running up the gut on the Griz.

Weber had 95 yards of rushing, in 31 attempts, in the 2d half against UM. 3 yards per carry. Weber ran most of the time in the 2d half and completed only 4 passes.

We need a QB like Dakatoa Prokrop. That guy gets it done.

"We?"

Yes, I have boys at both schools. I have seen both schools play a lot. Dakota Prukop is great. You may not like it
But it is reality!

Dakota is certainly a fine athlete but you already have him. I think what you meant to say was " What YOU need......"

In reality we likely need more than just a great qb. Time is what we need more than anything. Now you.....you NEED Dakota, at least the Cants defense does. It's scary bad.

You just made the case for kicking the FGs.

Well, WTH? 95 yds rushing in one half? That's a pretty good rushing stat. Davis & Weber, as well as Liberty, had the Griz DL number on up-the-gut runs. The Griz DL gets blown off on those runs. Watch for it vs. UND, which I'm sure will test the Griz DL.

Mmont, your schtick is completely warn out already. I would much rather have Growler on this board than listen to you try to convince us that you are a Griz fan. I have never met you or your children so honestly, I don't care where they go to college. This boar dis for fans of the Montana Grizzlies, and not the Montana State Bobcats. We all know you are an MSU fan, and that you're trolling. Give it up already.

I swear to god there are rare days when I wish the internet had never been invented. Before the internet, at least people with multiple personality disorders couldn't hide behind a keyboard. They had to do their damage out in the open.

The real problem is that stupid inflateable football helmet the Griz have to run through when they come out of the tunnel. Griz football has been in a slow decline since they bought that thing. Not only does it look stupid, I personally would feel like a moron running through that rediculus spectacle. Can we please start a campaign to get rid of the inflateable helmet blow up doll. Other than that, their losing due to poor coaching preparedness, and really stupid in game decisions (all covered above). Maybe that inflateable helmet is affecting Stint's ability to make sound judgement calls. Does anyone know who was behind buying that thing? What does it really represent? the inflated ego's that led us to this point? SOEMONE PLEASE POP THE INFLATEABLE HELMET DOLL BEFORE ITS TO LATE!

No, 95 yards in 31 carries in a half is not alot. It is very little. Combined with 25 yards of pass completions and 0 points, it is an excellent half. It is hard to discuss football with someone who doesn't understand that holding a running team to 3 yards per carry in a half is good.

Laughter is the best medicine!

On a related thought, I think it's hilarious what the Bobcats have...their tunnel run depicts a Bobcat vomiting the team out onto the field.

Losing sucks. Losing to Weber really sucks. And some Griz fans can really suck when the team loses too.

Here’s to a restful week off, some improved health from the team, and hopefully a better game in two weeks!

GO GRIZ!

This is the part that I can't stand. Fair weather fans. The most upsetting part of being part of such a tremendous football program. We are very lucky to have what we have- it's unique to all other states- some similar, like North Dakota & perhaps Idaho. This is the big game & we are always at the forefront, win or lose. I will cheer for this team if we went 0-6, but I have a sinking feeling there wouldn't be many of us. Which hurts my heart. . . .

I've always loved the fair weather fan bull from the people who reside in Missoula. I have attended every home game since 1989. During that time I got the kids in the car early in the morning(ages 1-18 over the years) and drove to missoula to watch the football games. I've hit 3 deer, slid off icy roads, not to mention the cost of travel, and rubbed frozen toes when the kids were cold. I bucked up whenever the athletic dept. asked for money(even when I didn't have it). My wife and I are now solo yet both my kids travel to Missoula from their current homes to meet us because of their deep Griz roots. Both are at msu because of curriculum decisions and still travel to Missoula to watch football. It worries me because I've experienced the dangers first hand. So in two weeks when the Missoula crowds leaves the game try and remember that we fair weather fans are in route to our homes. By the way I'm not impressed with the offense. It lacks leadership and is predictable........whoops sorry I if offended the real football fans.

Perhaps you misunderstood what I meant by "fair weather fans". It means they don't stay loyal when to going gets tough. By your explanation- I wouldn't call you a fair weather fan- you sound pretty bad ass to tell you the truth! The folks that won't stand by their team when they are losing even though they have that maroon shirt on. . . the folks that don't come back after a rough half, or leave SUPER early (South Dakota State 2008?ish- for example). YOU sir, sound like a great fan, and those of us in Missoula- thank you for your travels & cold toe rubs over the years. ;)

& I forgot to mention- I just moved back from Florida- I had to watch the games online or over the radio . . I got to fly up for one game in 2013. . . ..It was the worst- being so far away- but I still cheered loud and hard down there- even though no one even knew who I was cheering for or who that team was on my T-shirts. I did see Cat/Griz last year with a group of Montanans at a bar in Central Florida- that made my YEAR! So I know what it is like being far away. . . I grew up in Central Montana- traveling here, from Billings when I went for my first few years of college there & finally finding my home here in Missoula & now a proud alumni.

Keep up with your travels & do it safely. No more deer or slide-offs . .

There would be plenty. the ones that wouldn't be around are those complaining about empty seats after the half, folks not standing enough, or making enough noise and their long list of complaints about the fans when they aren't complaining about something else. Their fragile egos are tied up in something they are really not a part of and have no control of, but they like to pretend. The real fans (like you) understand the program and athletics in general is a lot bigger than W-L.

I have had season tickets since the late 70's, but I have to tell you. This has been one of the BEST years as frustrating as it times to watch Griz football in a lot of years. Every game has had the folks who enjoy griz football on the edge of their seats.

I’m at kind of a loss for how to recap this, we all saw the game, felt the frustration, and now have the all the questions floating around. As I sat there and watched Weber cheer and then watched the Griz walk off the field I noticed the last two guys to leave. Tyrone Holmes and Jeremiah Kose. Holmes especially appeared so mentally and physically beaten down. To watch these guys walk off the field and reflect upon their work to get to this point, both as seniors. The prior seasons, the coaching transition, winter conditioning, spring ball, summer conditioning, pre-fall, the start of the season – and to this point now. I can’t even possibly imagine the frustration these men feel. Nor can I rightfully try to justify or critique these players as individuals because I simply can’t empathize with the emotions I saw on the field.

Let’s be clear on some things.

- This game wasn’t a “perfect storm” of bad luck and issues for Montana

- This game was yet another very rough showing for the offense in general

- This game wasn’t a lucky win for a Weber team playing out of its mind or above expectations

- This game was a sobering showing for the defense. They only allowed 17 total points… that’s good, but they gave up 260 yards of total rushing offense, got fooled the 3rd week in a row on a pass trick play, and suddenly showed a lot of over-pursuit and missed tackles.

- This game could have had a different outcome if our kicker who was 9-9 on short fieldgoals was given 1 or 2 attempts to narrow the score in the 3rd quarter.

- This was another game where the O-line couldn’t keep the QB safe.

- This was a game that the Griz should have won.

- This remains a team that could be 6-0 or 0-6 or anywhere in-between, which I suppose a 3-3 record is fitting then.

- The fans didn’t wake up or really show up until late in the game. Many didn’t make it back until the start of the 4th quarter. At critical moments late in the game you’d see more fans sitting and looking on their phones in many sections than standing and cheering.

- The offense woes and questionable decisions on the 4th downs in the 3rd quarter weigh the most on the outcome. Yeah Simis was our 3rd string QB, and apparently the O-line got jumbled up again and didn’t perform regardless the mix. However with all of that the offense handed Weber a TD with a pick 6 and then handed Weber the win with a sack/fumble in OT.

- There seemed to be confusion all over the field. Some plays where D-line players were standing up and certainly appeared to be confused. Others where WRs or O-linemen looked very confused out there.

Losing sucks. Losing to Weber really sucks. And some Griz fans can really suck when the team loses too.

There was some incredible moments and individual efforts today. Ben Roberts gets better every game, he had his best game as a Griz and I can’t help but wonder if his stock with keep rising. KVA had 17 tackles, I’ll have to check updated stats but he’s got to be near the lead for tackles in the conference. Holmes kept his sack streak going with another one today. Henderson’s sideline catch was incredible. Jamaal Jones had a great catch and an even better block the next play to help John Nguyen find the endzone.

3-3 isn’t the end of the season. Yeah the context of a loss to what was supposed to be the last “easy” game of the season sure suggests it – but don’t quit on this team! They’ve got a much needed week off to re-group. Over that stretch hopefully the QB situation can become a little more clear.

The Griz are now backed up against the wall and will need to turn this thing around for the rest of the season. We'll see how they respond! They've got good team leadership which I suspect will lead the charge to get the guys re-grouped fast.

Take a step back and a deep breath Griz Nation. We’ve just crossed the halfway point – there’s a lot of football to go.

Here’s to a restful week off, some improved health from the team, and hopefully a better game in two weeks!

GO GRIZ!

Good post. I guess I would add, the conference is much more competitive than it used to be. Teams we used to consider easy wins (today's opponent for example) are tougher, more talented, and better coached teams than they were in the past. People on this board seem to consistently neglect the fact that there's another team out there. Not an excuse. In fact, I would have to say, we will not beat very many teams in this conference with an offense that can't score more than 20ish points.

What? I thought coach stitt was going to be the second coming of Jesus Christ, and NOBODY in the conference was going to keep up with this "high" octane offense....(in reference to literally any thread on e-griz before the NDSU game).
