Enjoyed the football talk. A gutsy win against a solid team on the road. We missed some tackles but if you made every one then you would shut down every opponent. We forget there are scholarship athletes on the other side, like Mr. Starr. When the Griz do things right -- like Henderson getting behind the defense again -- we credit him. We do not blame the defense. When Van breaks an opponent's ankles, we give him credit and don't blame poor tackling by our opponents. We do have some issues that need to be fixed if we are to make a run in the playoffs. Primarily, it is our third-down defense. We work to get teams into a third and long and then give up the first down. You know the coaches realize this as well, but what is to be done? I think we need to play the ball more aggressively when it is in air, but you can get burned that way as well. Also, I see opposing linebackers really crashing to fill the gaps on our run game. I don't see us running much misdirection. For those of you who have studied our last few games, am I wrong and do you think misdirection would take advantage of the aggressive linebacker play?

Good points moats. Yes, misdirection will work if done occasionally. Also, more short passes to the tight ends or a quick curl or slant would be a good start. I also like that quick WR screen to Henderson that is like the one the Broncos run with D. Thomas.

Mis-direction was working for USD in the first half but not as much in the 2nd half as the Griz adjusted and were better prepared for it. IMO

It was a good win against a quality opponent. The fact we got the win with three turnovers (one pick 6) is a testament to the tuff ness of this team. While I realize JJ was under a lot of pressure, he struggled. He under threw a number of passes and the 2nd INT was a pretty bad over throw - granted he was under pressure. It takes a good team to win a game when you do not play your best. The Griz are a good team.

I'm sorry but a team with a 4-6 record is not a quality opponent...

LOL. You got that right. Brint is such a homer. He refuses to admit anything negative about the Griz. I like how he tried to justify the 3 interceptions, and the play of the offensive line. The Grizzlies had 53 yards rushing, a 2.1 yards/carry average, and Johnson spent much of the day picking himself up off the turf. Trying to say that South Dakota was a tough opponent is a joke. The facts are that the Griz have not defeated a real playoff type team this season, and have struggled even against average opponents. The Griz offensive coordinator needs to teach Johnson how to to read the blitz and hit the hot receiver. He seems to be clueless in this area.

Just a realty check post to counteract the sugar coating.

Hello Growler, MSU fan now I see?

USD is a good team with a lot of near misses, they could easily be 6-4 right now with wins over UM and Youngstown, with SDSU and NDSU yet to see. They're not there yet, their pass D isn't the best and when their running back got hurt they really lost an edge. They seem like a team that's a few play makers shy of being a real solid crew.

And the Griz did defeat PSU who is still in the playoff race (albeit a REAL long shot).

The 3 interceptions: He was pressured and being hit on all three, was he not? One is being attributed to a bad route by a WR. I did say I wished he would've thrown a few away

The O-line play: The Griz scrapped the run early on because passing was working pretty well. Also a lot of plays with Johnson getting hit were because of initial down field cover, many of Jordy's passes were 2nd/3rd reads or even on broken plays where he's running out of the pocket. Are we now to expect the O-line has to pass protect for 8 seconds per play? Yeah there were issues, they were blitzed heavily at times, some O-linemen would miss on plays. I'm not saying it was great, but the O-line blocked well enough to keep the passing game going, something they've been pretty good at most of the season.

I'm not sure its Brint who needs a reality check. SD is a quality team, that is reality. The Griz beat them even though Jordy had a bad game. If he had a good game, we would have won by at least 2 td's, maybe 3.

Total sugar coating from the king of sugar coaters. They "scrapped the run early because the passing was working well"? Please! So, all of those zero-yardage runs were just a mirage? 2.1 yards per carry? Your spin is about as valid as Obama's. I think Jay Carney should yield to you as press sec. You are much better at the spin than he is.

So, PSU is your answer to a good team? ROFL.

Face the facts, dude. The Griz could EASILY be 5-5 right now. The wins versus Poly and South Dakota were gifts. This team is not even close to Griz teams we have had in the past 20 years. They are undisciplined, and poorly-coached. The secondary is the worst in the Big Sky. The O-line is not much better. We need to get rid of Delaney , and both coordinators next season and start over. If not, the weekly product you see on the field is what you will get!

Now, go whine to the mods to have me banned, cause you can't take anyone providing an antidote to your sugar coating.

Keep living in denial. We were schooled by South Dakota except for those two lucky plays.

So which team is greater?

Sac St 4-6

OR

USD 4-6

What is the combined record of the teams we have defeated this year? Would be interesting to know, but I am too lazy to look it up. I think the only teams we beat with barely winning records are PSU and Poly.

Fact is the Griz are 8-2. That is all that matters, really.

Hey Brint, we finally got to watch the game last night after being on planes all day yesterday. Glad to be home. ... I saw lots of improvement this week in tackling and game adjustments. Is there room for more improvement? Absolutely. But the Griz are headed in the right direction.
...
Over all, I think it was a solid road win over a solid opponent.
What I found impressive -- and have felt was lacking early in the season -- was the half-time adjustments. Remember, not so long ago, when we bitched about these coaches not being able to do that? Not only did the Griz keep SD scoreless in the 3rd quarter, they also held them to their lowest yardage of any quarter: Less than 90, which ain't bad.
