Possible Griz JC recruit?

A friend of mine has told me "one of the D-1 Montana" school is recruiting this kid hard so I thought I might throw it out.

In the 2003 4A State Tournament, a young man named Adonal Arrington truly made himself known to the basketball world. The soft-spoken 6-foot-10, 310-pound center's dominance in the paint helped lead Clackamas High School to a third place finish - and also helped him earn a full ride from Weber State. Three years later, Arrington is back on the market, finishing off his sophomore season at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham.

In the spring of 2003, Arrington signed a letter-of-intent with Weber State, but wasn't able to qualify academically and sat out the 2003-04 season. Feeling homesick, the big man nicknamed "Junior" decided to come back home and enrolled at Mt. Hood. After a freshman season as a reserve, Arrington has started to hit his stride as a sophomore - mainly because he's gotten into better shape.

"Junior started off the year at about 335 pounds, but has gotten down to 290 to 295," said Mt. Hood assistant coach Geoff Gibor. "So he's lost 40 pounds and he's getting better every game. That's been his main focus (losing weight) because he's big enough to be a player inside. But now he's able to get up and down better - he's more mobile."

Arrington's numbers this year aren't particularly awe-inspiring, but they are solid - especially for the amount of time that he plays. He's averaging nine pionts and 5.4 rebounds on 57 percent shooting, and does it in only 14 minutes a contest in playing time. His size alone has been enough to attract college attention once again, and the more he gets into shape the more schools are calling.

"Portland State has been in to see him a few times, and San Diego seems to be pretty interested," Gibor said. "San Diego has said that they're still studying film. He's also gotten a lot of attention from D-II and NAIA schools."

Although he used a redshirt year while sitting out at Weber State, Arrington will still have two years of eligibility once leaving Mt. Hood CC.

Mlsacat,

Wouldn't the cats be recruiting big men given there lack of a true big man? The Griz have some big guys in the wings so i can't imagine Krysko is on this guy.

Yep I agree! To a point. We do have 6-10 Ted Morris, 6-9 Chawn Johnson, 6-8 Braden Johnson, and 6-10 Travis Derochowski in the wings, all but Morris will be a freshman next year. But I can not confirm which school if any is recruiting him. Just thought I would put him on the radar.

UM still has one schollie to give, so have been doing some looking.
I think the GRIZ have filled all 4 schollies....Chase, Rundles, Vanderjagt and Graves replace Seyfert, Criswell, Matthews and Staudacher.

At Sac State we're redshirting Stephen Colvin. He's 18 years old and arrived at Sac State around 7'0 360lbs I'm told. I've heard he's dropped to about 320 since the summer and grown an inch to 7'1. I only saw him play at the Hornet Hoopfest and he's got decent touch around the hoop and a short jumper. I'm betting the coached want him down to about 290 by the start of next year. He could be a force in the Big Sky for years to come. His story reminded me of Alex Bausley's. When Alex was a freshman he was about 275 and lost 40 points before his sophomore year last year.

With the departure of Criswell, Matthews and Seyfert (3 s-ship players), 11 are left on the roster ... two are non-s-ship (Spurgetis, Chavez)

I presume the 9 others are s-shipped ...

Dloughy, Ellis, Hasquet, Martin, Mayes, Sharp, Strait, Swift, V. Vliet

I presume the 4 new signees are also s-shipped ...

Rundles, Graves, Chase, Vanderjagt.

That's 13 s-ships for next year. NCAA men's limit is 13 ... so it appears there are no more s-ships available.

Where did I go wrong? Or did I?

(in Div 1 hoops s-ships cannot be split; all or none).

Bausley was way too heavy before he lost the weight. He is a tough player to defend because he still has god size, can gandle the ball fairly well, hits the boards, and doesn't take any plays off.

What kind of student is the big kid? Do you know who else recruited him or did Jenkins bring him in as a project. The Griz have had a couple big guys in recent years who didn't develop as well as we woul dhave hoped. I think Krysko finally has 2 good ones in our redshit and the recruit from down under.

I will confirm your math, but the fact is that the Griz are out recruiting in full force. It really appears that they are looking to sign a big gaurd/small forward high school player. I know they were setting up in home visits in Febuary for kids in Arizona and California.
The fact still remains that the numbers still don't add up. I heard about a month ago that one of the Griz returning players has decided to transfer to some where closer to home, but I have not been able confirm it.

Sorry, But I heard a rumor from one source and have not been able to confirm it. Have heard from multiple sources tha the Griz are recruiting for this spring, but like I said, I think it is for a High school swing player.

Kadeezy,

What do you know about a kid named Eugene Crockett? I read in your paper where he is now headed to Pepperdine. The way the story read it sounded as though he was going to Sac but changed his mind. The writer commented that he thought Crockett could be starting for Sac right now. What's the deal on him? Thanks
