Position Comparisons

Meh, I'm game.

QB: MSU. Normal circumstances I'd say tie if not leaning towards UM, but McGhee is a 3 year starter, and JJ has had a lot to deal with, a season off, and a new coach and offense while he was gone.
RB: Toss up. UM may have more athletic talent, but Kirk is nothing but consistent, and Johnson should have more carries this year as well. That is a good 1-2 punch. UM has a better line to run behind as well...
OL: UM. MSU too inexperienced.
WR: Toss up. No real playmakers in either group just yet. Bleskin is not a game breaker, but gets open and catches everything. Henderson has a chance to be big for the Griz. Cats have some serious potential, but unproven as of yet. Ellis needs consistency.
TE: MSU. Salanoa is a stud and should be back to full strength this year after missing a lot of last year due to injuries. Good depth here as well.

DL: UM, because of DT. MSU is fine on the ends, but DT depth is concerning.
LB: UM now with Na'a out.
CB: MSU barely. I think this group will be one of the better all around groups we've had in awhile.
S: MSU. Bethley is a proven stud and I think Barnett has a chance to be special this year.
Good evaluation, but I disagree with you on Ellis. I think Ellis is a stud. IMO its McGhees lacking in accuracy that makes Ellis look bad.

There are some similarities between Kirk and Reynolds. I'm not going to say who is better, staying away from that, but Kirk and Reynolds both have great vision and great balance. That's where the similarities end really.

Anyone who tries to compare Chase and Cody past basic stat sheets isn't paying very close attention. They are very different backs in almost every metric. If you study the film and analyze this closely, you find that Cody is much closer to Trevyn Smith. That's still quite a compliment to Cody and doesn't take anything away from Chase.

UM's linebackers are considerably better than MSU's even with the kid whose hurt. It's not even a close call.

UM's d-line is better than MSU's.

UM has the best front 7 in FCS this year.

I can agree with vision and balance. They're also from small towns in MT. Reynolds is faster. Both have down alot with their level of natural physical talent, especially Kirk (who doesn't have as much physical talent as Reynolds. Kirk has had a nice career for MSU. Can't imagine he'll see an NFL camp, though. My hats off to both of them.

according to Gregorak, it's the best front 7 he has seen since he has been in the Big Sky Conf. (10 yrs or so)

Um's front seven has the potential to be what msu's front seven was last year.

Dont you down grade 'em both then? Nod to JJ at QB.
Plus comparing a senior to a soph at WR.
Tells me the talent lies with the underclassmen on both counts!

Our front 7 is way better than msu's. Teams are going to have a though time running against us this year :-)

Uhhhh.....no.
Hands down UM was better , MSU won't even be close again this year !

Caleb schreibeis was buck buchannon winner, jody owens was bsc mvp, zach minter was a beast in the middle, and daly was a terror off the end. MSU had a GREAT front seven last year. This year, theres some rebuilding to be done.

Psst... be careful entering PR's world, there are some straaaange things going on there. Don't forget, he said and honestly believes the griz were a better team than the CATS last year, based on all those games they almost won.

our front seven was just as good as m.s.u.'s last year at least. we led the league in yards per rush and were right with them in sacks. our secondary sucked. it won't be as bad this year, but it won't be as good as 2011.

I say they were equal, though MSU may have had better stats, but that was because their offense did a better job of keeping them off the field.

Huh? How many years ago was that line by Hauck? You need a new writer for your jokes.

About the last time you guys won a Cat/Griz game in Missoula. ;)
