Position by position discussion: linebackers

i think that 3-4 is logical, when you consider our new o/c is a former (big time) linebacker himself and has to be some what biased...also, at this level he should be able to assemble any defense, just as any o/c might have to do for a single game that might be required or he should not be an o/c...and last but not least, every coach wants his best athletes on the field, with the defense which gives him the best chance to be successful....i think a 3-4 defense could be that defense..imo

Tripp will be a starter. He's ahead of schedule on his shoulder rehab, so I doubt that his shoulder will be an issue.
hopefully it all works out, but rehabbing means nothing until he takes a big blow to it. that will be the real test.

Not true. Rehabbing means alot. Strengthening the shoulder area with lifting means alot. Name one UM player in the past 15 years that didn't come back and play after the dozens of shoulder surgeries that players have had in that period of time. Even Pitcher came back for awhile, and there was a back story involving why his shoulder may not have recovered (involving a non-football reinjury after the surgery).

You need to stick to ambulance-chasing and stop trying to be a doctor. I spent many years in the orthopedic surgery business, and shoulder injuries are the most difficult bone-tendon injuries to recover from. Since I do not know what Tripp's diagnosis is, I can not comment on the severity of his injury. Just know that shoulder injuries have ended the careers of many a football player.

You should stick to talking about something you know something about (if there is anything in that category). I know what Tripp's injury was.

i've got a lot of things that i'd like to sell.

Yeah, I should not have questioned whether old "sniffs-a-jock" knew the exact diagnosis of Tripp's injury, his doctor, the nurse, and the orderly who cleaned his room. :thumb:

His native name is now "Runs To Sniff Jocks" since he is at least 11% Indian.

Coming back from a serious shoulder injury in football is rare; it's one of the joints they haven't been able to repair very successfully. Tripp may very well be done.

Oh, BS. People come back from shoulder surgery all the time. UM has one or more players come back from shoulder surgery every year on average. Again, feel free to name any UM player in the last 15 years who didn't come back from shoulder surgery. Yes, we know that PItcher came back only briefly.

Settle down people.

Tripp is doing good and feeling good. He's still doing re-hab and PT but also lifting with the team. He'll participate in most portions of spring ball except for some of the harder hitting portions as a precaution (although when you talk to him it sounds like he feels he can handle it no problem).

Plenty of recent players have come back from shoulder injuries, Coyle and Fether immediately come to mind.

How Tripp's shoulder responds to big hits will be the deciding factor and most likely that'll get some light test this spring but wont see heavy work until fall.

If we do use 4-3 i would assume they would move tripp to will and keep JP at sam and Stu mike. and when they run 3-4 Brock will be added to the mix or just stand a D-end up like Zack Wags.

How so stu is the only one who has played mike and brock would be learning it. Plus stuberg is way more athletic and all around better linebacker

Brock played middle linebacker in high school and was recruited by Hauck to play MLB! believe me you have no idea what your talking about saying Stuberg is way more athletic and all around better.

that is just plain fucking stupid! Stuberg is a great player but Brock will be the starter by Fall i guarantee it!!

If I want a RB tackled I will pick Coyle everytime......if I want a fence knocked over at 2am......I will go with Stuberg.

You don't know what the fcuk you are talking about, as usual. Shoulder injuries are BY FAR the worst bone-tendon injuries for football players. They end the careers of more players than knees or elbows combined. We could ask Greg Cook, about a month ago.

I don't think he has found out yet whether Pflu wears Jockeys or briefs. But, give him time.
