. . . Look at the home records this year for Big Sky teams. It's not easy to win on the road.. The Griz are the only Big Sky team with a .500 record on the road this year. Everyone else is well below that. This is a very big win for the Griz, and should give them more confidence that they can score on the road going into the EWU game . . .

That statistic is interesting in light of a thread on the Weber board this week about whether we can get both road wins and host. Several guys in that thread predicted we would lose at least one of this week's road games because the Griz are "not a good road team." But apparently no one in this conference is very good on the road.

Exactly! Take the wins you can get!

UM had 8 turnovers in the game. The guards had 1 turnover. UM had 2 turnovers in the last 12 minutes. Turnovers were not the problem in this game.

While free throw shooting could have been better later in the game, UM shot 71% for the game.

Also, how clutch were those free throw by Cherry!? Sounds like he was way more active than in the LBS game. Hopefully he is getting near 100%...and just in time!

I think the Griz are going to have a tougher time in Cheney, and a loss wouldn't be a surprise - if only because it is the 2nd game of the road trip, which is always the tougher. Don't forget that EWU is fighting for post-season position as well, and a loss could knock them out of the tourney. Also it is a TV game, which seems to add a distraction as we saw last Saturday in Long Beach.

Probably most concerning is that the Griz still don't seem to be clicking quite right, and are definitely not peaking right now as they should be. They had a mediocre team that has nothing but pride to play for down by double digits early, and they couldn't put them way. Earlier in the season Cherry said they needed to start stepping on opponents throats and not let them hang around. Seems like someone needs to remind the team of this again. At this point of the season the team should be hitting on all cylinders and not getting wake up calls and learning lessons. They can still get it going, but time is running out if they are going to make a solid run at March Madness.

Enjoy the win.. 1 moe and home floor!! Growler get some sleep and lose the attitude. relax man. Relax

Attitude? Did someone piss in your Kool-Aid? I'm just telling it like it is. I have been following Grizzly BB for 40 years. I feel like I have the right to have an opinion. And, I believe it is correct.

You are a blowhard.

I think the Griz will take care of business on Saturday in Cheney. They know what's at stake with hosting and that will be plenty of motivation to play a great game. I also think the Portland State game is the tougher game on this road trip. Even the fading bobcats beat EWU and I have a feeling PSU will beat them Saturday.

My $.02

Go Griz!

Maul'em!

All of this plus the Eags are now pissed about losing to the Cats.

Here is another point to consider in any discussion about last night's game in Portland vs the supposedly great teams of the 1970s and 1980s.

I started following Griz basketball during my freshman year, the 1983-1984 season. In those days the league office was in Boise and the league made no secret of regarding Boise as its marquee school in all sports. Nevada-Reno and Boise did not believe Missoula had adequate hotel or restaurant accommodations to support the tournament. They made it clear that they would regard it as a disaster if we ever had the tournament in Missoula. Therefore, for at least my first two years as a Griz fan, the criteria for hosting the tournament were in constant flux. I don't remember all of the details but I do remember the conference constantly moving the goalposts around so that no matter what happened, we could never host it.

How this relates back to the discussion about this year's team vs the bigger, tougher, more disciplined teams of yesteryear, such as the Montgomery-Krysko-MacBride-Marc Glass teams, is that last night's team was playing for a chance to host the tournament in Missoula, an outcome that the Montgomery-Krysko-MacBride-Glass teams never would have been allowed to accomplish no matter how many games they won or who they beat.

Sheesh! I was feeling pretty positive about gutting out a critical win last night. All I have to do is come on eGriz to find out that I should be disappointed that we almost lost! What's with all the negativity? And come on guys - "no heart"? This Griz have gelled pretty well and come together to play like a team rather quickly - alleviating the fear of what the loss of Anthony Johnson would leave us with. Most of the team is still pretty young and they have shown a lot of guts, if you ask me. Maybe we should give Portland State credit for playing with some heart of their own when they had relatively little to play for.

Go Griz! Beat the Eags. I know there are many fans applauding your efforts this year and it's been a fun ride. Let's keep it going!!

Please remove the plural from "guys". All the "no heart" talk was growler. According to him, not one griz basketball team has had heart/discipline since Morrill's last year of 90-91.

The funny thing is, the team after the Morrill team was actually better. They were under BT, but they had the opportunity to beat the Seminoles that year in the first round. The last I checked, we beat UNR in the first round as a 12 seed. Stu's teams never got close to a 12 seed, try the 64th as we played UNLV.
