Why would he want to? Many of you cat fans are notorious for failing to pay when you lose bets. And you lose a lot.

I put down 10 wins and have Cal-Poly and msu as toss-ups.

The key to this season is game #1 at home vs. App State and game #4 at NAU.

If UM wins those two games, a 10-12 W regular season is very probable. We will find out about the Griz in the first 4 games as 3 of those are revenge games against teams UM lost to in 2012. App State by 8, North Dakota by 6 and NAU by 10.

08/31/13 vs. Appalachian State (W)
I just cant see App state traveling to UM and winning, as app states d is down and O-line is very young. The griz will have a better QB at the helm and only lost by 8 last year. UM wins 28-12
09/14/13 at North Dakota (W)
As bad as the secondary played last year and only lost by 6... revenge game UM wins 42-14
09/21/13 vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State (W)
REALLY... 70-6
09/28/13 at Northern Arizona * (W)
Griz get revenge for the third time in 4 weeks UM 31-20
10/05/13 vs. Portland State * (W)
DNP in 2012 UM wins 42-14
10/12/13 at UC Davis * (W)
Davis was 4-7 last year... UM 35-14
10/19/13 vs. Cal Poly * (Toss Up)
At Home against a very good team. Final score 28-24
10/26/13 vs. Eastern Washington * (W)
EWU is not as good as the 2012 version and plays OSU and Toledo early... UM wins 42-24
11/02/13 at Sacramento State (W)
UM always travels well to Pam State UM wins 42-14
11/09/13 at South Dakota (W)
Was 1-10 in 2012 and opens with Kansas in 2013...OUCH. UM 52-14
11/16/13 vs. Weber State * (W)
By this time of the year Weber is already thinking about 2014. Griz win 48-17
11/23/13 at Montana State * (Toss Up)
At Bozeman... which cat team shows up? Notorious late season swan dives (scored 16,16 & 16 in final three 2012 games), will that continue? If UM is rolling... this could get ugly. msu scores 16 so either msu 16-14 or UM 48-16

LOL!!! Seriously... pass the pipe. Can I assume you aren't interested in putting $$ down on all your predictions?

Keep it up. You've only got 3 more months to get your shots in. It's going to be another long decade.

I think Sac St on the road, ASU, and EWU will be close games or "toss ups". Also, don't think we will have that many blow out victories this year. My vote was 9.

poorcats, do you expect us to believe MSU was better than SHSU in 2012?
BWHAHAHA
never thought i could enjoy a non-griz playoff game so much.
That was such a fun night. Thanks for helping me re-live it.

Pass the pipe??? thats funny considering that there are cat fans that actuallly believe they are going down to SMU and winning, and then 14 days later traveling to Texas again. How did the last trip to Texas go? Thank God for Monmoth and Colorado Mines! Or are they this years Chadron State???

While it is true that UM lost 6 games, the loses were by 8, 10, 6, 10, 6, & 9. Not exactly the flaming fire bomb that catboxers think it was. Remember, (oh thats right you are a cat- so facts are irrelevant) that in most of those loses the Griz lead or were driving to take the lead late in the game. These loses came with QB's that were not ready to be a starter, young O-Line, a new coaching staff, a secondary mess & all the offseason turmoil that came with the JJ trial and news reports.

Gone is the turmoil... enter a QB with a chip on his shoulder.
Enter a coaching staff that is ALOT better prepared.
Enter an improved secondary
Enter an O-line that is older and better.
Enter not only the best front 7 on D in the conference, but the best front 7 in FCS.

So snicker if you want... I like the chances of UM getting ALOT better and msu having a 6-5 down year.

Well said. Don't be surprised if someone posts "JJ does not have a chip on his shoulder." Someone called me out a few months ago for using that saying. I guess someone does not like it here. Maybe whoever it was, is now on a temporary vacation. :thumb:

Not only does JJ have a chip, the whole team/program has one. Hell, GrizNation in general has a chip on their collective shoulder. I expect the atmosphere at the App State game to be about as good as it's ever been, which is why I'm flying back for it.

i usually avoid these threads because they are pretty pointless. griz fans will have the griz winning 12+ games and making an appearance in the chipper. cat fans will have the cats doing the same. everyone is a homer.

that said....your take seems to lack any objectivity. let's say i agree with everything you said about the griz. and fyi....i do agree with a lot. the griz should be a much better team this year. so you gave a bunch of good examples of why your griz might show such improvement. care to do the same for the cats will suddenly be a 6 win team?! :o

if interested...that is a bet i'll happily take....

cat lover, many hope the cats win games with the exception of the Griz/cat.

The topic of the thread is how many the Griz will win. Who cares about the cats?

Another thread on egriz could be "does anyone care about the cats'?

well the very last sentence in the post i quoted was a griz fan giving a cat prediction. so while that poster may not "care" he still threw a number out there. i was more curious as to why he thinks my guys in blue and gold will only win 6 games this year. that seems to be an even bolder prediction than the griz winning 12+ games. :?

Okay, let's bet all of the games are predicted by Payton. The bet will include each game (same amount for each game). I'm willing to bet any amount of money you are. Money to be held by Chris at egriz or somethign similar. Put up or shut up.

seems reasonable. and what should the stakes be for his prediction the cats will win 6 games?

OK so here's my overall thoughts.

Signs that point to a good/better season:
- Return of JJ brings experience to QB
- Solid O-line, especially if Poole is allowed to return
- Good stable of running backs
- Experienced defense that isn't breaking in 9 new starters
- Maybe the best D-line in the Big Sky
- Arguably one of the top front 7 starters as a unit in all of the FCS
- Offensive Coordinator(s) who aren't going to quit on the team
- A great punter

Signs that point to continued challenges:
- Breaking in of all new running backs, none could stay healthy in spring camp
- Lack of depth/experience at WR beyond Henderson
- VERY little returning TE experience in the passing game
- If Poole doesn't return Schmaing is serviceable and improving but not as good a protector (yet)
- Inexperienced Oline depth
- Inexperienced LB depth
- Almost the exact same secondary as last year (but I'll say, they're healthier, more experienced, and have a new and MUCH better coach)
- A head coach who made errors that we've not seen at this level that often.
- Many assistant coaches who are very inexperienced. We have position coaches that were GAs last year, our OCs are brand new on their job, the DC is in his 2nd year
- Unknown on the kicking front and all new KR/PR

------
I still think 9-3 will make for a solid season and quite honestly I can easily see it being better than that or worse than that. If this tem gels early, the Oline is solid and our backs stay healthy... add in a defensive secondary that will be improved from last year and oh yeah I could see 10 or 11 wins. Or it could go the other way, the staff could be way in over it's head, key players could get hurt, or maybe some of the (hoped for) improvement just isn't there and this team wins 5 or 6 games.

I do think there's a much higher probabiliy that this team could do better than a 9 win season than do worse.

The only thing I'm worried about is our kicking game. Will we be able to put points on the board if we need to rely on our kicker at the end of a game?

In all but 2 of those losses, if the fizz had scored in those late drives, they would not have taken the lead. They best they could hope for in one was to have tied with a low percentage 2 pt. In half of them a sore would not have even tied the game so by your facts 33% is most

Absolutely you're on. Let's go $100 per game with those predictions, including his point spreads. Since he put two scores for Cat\griz, let's just go straight up on that one. I will send $1200 to Chris tomorrow if you're serious.

App State game....we trailed by 1 with 5:05 to go.
EWU game...we led by 9 with 8:26 to go and trailed by just 2 with 2:19 to go
SUU game...game was tied with 2:12 to go
UND game....we led with 2:00 to go
MSU game...we were down by 6 with 2:32 to go

So, the statement that we either "led or were driving to take the lead late in the game" in most of the losses is pretty factual. The only game we weren't close in late in the 4th was the NAU game, a game we actually led at one point 24-7.
