Playoff Developments/Clarity

1. I don't see how the MV gets in more than 2 teams. Ill St is 5-4, but has NDS and So Ill to end season. Only 11 game schedule.

2. CAA is developing clarify and has 3 likely teams and 2 more, WM and JMU, at 6-3. WM has Del., Towson, Richmond. 1 of the losses is to West Va. JM has NH, Stoney Brook, Towson.

3. I think Big Sky will probably get 4 teams in, but it will depend on how UM, and maybe MSU, finish, as well as what happens in other conferences.

4. The Big South has undefeated Coastal and 9-1 Charles So, whose only loss is to Colo. These 2 teams will play each other. Will 2 teams come from this weaker 6-team conference? Compare to MV's situation. That would be unfair.

5. The Ohio Valley's second and third teams are 6-3 East Kentucky and 7-2 Jacksonville St. They have to play each other. Also, 7-3 Tenn St. I didn't analyze this conference closely, but I can't imagine more than 2 teams would be selected from that conference. I'm not sure that even 2 teams would be deserving, but again I didn't analyze.

6. The Patriot is a bit of a wild card. Several teams with bad records in the running for the auto-bid, and also 6-2 Lehigh with a conf loss to Fordham. Fordham is 9-0 and can apparently go to the playoffs, but can't win the conference for some reason. 3 teams don't deserve to go from that conference. 2 would be more than enough, or even too many.

7. I doubt that more than 1 team would go from the Pioneer conference, but didn't analyze. I assume the Pioneer is now an auto-bid, but didn't check.

8. The Southland may get 3 teams in. Can't imagine that Central Ark, at 5-4, would get in. They have SE La, Nichols and SHS yet to play.

9. The So Con has 7-2 Chatt, 6-3 Samford and 5-3 Wofford, all with 1 conf loss. Chatt finishes with Wofford, Samford and Alabama. Sam finished with Furman, Chatt and Elon. Woff finishes with Chatt, ASU and Furman; just lost to Samford. Hard for me to tell. I suppose they'll get at least 2 teams in, and possibly 3, depending on how things end. I'm guessing Wofford doesn't get in.
 
It would be nice to see 4 Big Sky teams make it in to represent a strong conference, especially since that would set up some potential rematches for the Griz to get some revenge. My only concern is the Griz finishing strong and making it in for hopefully at least a first round home game.

NAU has to avoid their end season meltdowns which to be honest I would not mind at all except for I think/hope the Griz could beat them in a rematch. The Bobcats and Eagles let some real bad teams hang with them for a long time yesterday (some would say the Griz did too) so maybe they were overlooking their opponents in anticipation of their conference championship showdown next weekend. Yet I would not be surprised (and would love) to see either one of them get upset down the road. As long as the Griz win out I could care less who wins the conference and wouldn't mind seeing the Griz play and defeat all 3 other Big Sky teams in the playoffs.

Unless the D tackles better (JP & Hermie, excepted), and the OL opens holes better, the Griz will not go far in the playoffs. Sac runners & WRs ran thru outstretched arms, time & again. Maybe it was good Sac blocking.

They might get thru the 1st round, ok, but with better competition, how they have been playing will see a quick out. There will be no 4th qtr rallies or OT wins. If the level of the BSC has raised, it has also raised in other conferences.

Their run game is virtually nonexistent. We see nothing of the Lex Hilliards or Chase Reynolds's. Maybe those guys had better OLs.

Thank goodness for Worst, Shaw, & Henderson. Worst is a FR, remember, & is all we've got. He's good. In time, he'll get better. Shaw? You can count on him & he'll get better. Henderson, always a return threat. Good ST weapons. If anything, maybe ST play will get the Griz thru if all else fails. Esp. in the playoffs.

No doubt the Griz need to work on improving some things and increase their level of play not only to make the playoffs but to do anything positive in them. If the Griz do make it in the field of 24 and win their first game (likely against the 2nd or 3rd place Big Sky team) they may end up drawing a team like the Bison or Bearkats in the second round. I am not sure what other teams near this region may get placed on the same side as Big Sky teams.

I believe the Griz could hold their own against any Big Sky foe in the playoffs if they play to their ability and avoid some of the issues they had in prior matchups against NAU and EWU. It remains to be seen if the lines would not be manhandled by NAU again but I have faith the Griz will be ready should they be fortunate enough to have second chances.

Of course worst case scenarios the Griz could get blown out in the playoffs or not even make the field if they do not finish the season strong. I believe in the Griz players, the coaches not so much, and think they will show the FCS what the pride and tradition of Montana Grizzly football is all about.

Nobody plays someone in their conference the first round. They can in the second as NDSU and SDSU did last year.
