He didn't blame the team. The only time he mentioned not playing with fire was against Northern Arizona and this was his response to why that was: "That’s my job. That’s what they pay me for is to work with these guys and help them have a chance and help them be successful. This isn’t an X and O thing. This is just wanting to go out and play football. It all runs downhill and starts with the head coach."
....he also said he would look to the upperclassmen and position coaches for help getting the team fired up when they are on the road. He said he never noticed an issue with the team not playing with "fire" at home.
Also, Ryan Johnson agreed with him: "It’s on us 100 percent. We just gotta make sure we’re ready to go when the bullets start flying, when that first snap happens and do our and jobs and make plays."
