Give him time. That is what good coaches need and don't kid yourself, Pflu is a good coach. Bohl did not magically turn NDSU into a powerhouse either.
NDSU and Bohl have a completely different recruiting philosophy and game day approach then Pflu did at Montana. As such, they won't compete, or will compete very little. UND also has historically hardly recruited in Wisconsin, which is where most of NDSU's success has been found. Does Pflu have background recruiting Minnesota and Wisconsin? If not, how would he plan on coming in there and taking NDSU recruits?
Also at Montana, Pluf had the advantage of recruiting players to play at MONTANA. He could say to a kid, hey come play at one of the premier programs in the FCS. At UND, he is telling a kid to come play at a program that is an after thought in their own state, and one of the worst teams in the FCS.
I smell fear behind that bravado.
None. You need to live in ND to have an idea of how far behind UND's program is right now. It would take a person like Dale Lennon, SIU's coach, to come into UND before I would even contemplate UND out-recruiting NDSU.
NDSU had a very similar streak to Montana/Montana State, I think it was at 13 years or something like that. UND had always tried to be this fancy offense. They brought it a fellow named Roger Thomas who decided that if UND was ever going to beat NDSU, they needed to do it at their own game. As such, they started to focus on recruiting the best offensive lineman and physical defense football players.
Pflu is not bread like this. He is of the Oregon offensive mindset. As such, I don't think he will interfere with NDSU recruiting because he doesn't want to play like NDSU.
