But if you compare Pflugrad’s results in 2010 and what he had to work with to Delaney’s results in 2012 and the sh!tstorm he was dealing with, Delaney wins hands down.

And if you compare Pflugrad's results in 2011 and what he had to work with to Delaney's results in 2013 with the talent he was dealing with, Pflugrad wins hands down.
really? that 2011 team started 16 seniors, 1 was drafted in the 3rd round and another in the 7th round, and 5 other seniors signed free agent contracts. 7 players from that senior class signing NFL contracts is the most in Griz history. I like the talent the Griz have coming up, but it seems like the cubbard was pretty full of talent in 2011 also.

Wow. I forgot how much talent that team had. Regardless, I'm pretty sure we all can agree that Pflu's first year was a disappointment.

2009 & 2011 teams underachieved. Both should have won titles.

Funny how nobody brings up Don Read's coaching record before he came here.

Would anyone of heard of him had Dickenson gotten injured early in his career or been suspended from playing?

Would anyone have heard of Dickenson if Read hadn't recruited and played him? Really stretching here.....

Yes, because Dickenson might have gone to Dartmouth or Harvard, and won the Payton award there.

"Objection, calls for speculation"
"Sustained!" "Counselor, you know better than that."

PR, stick with being a man of the facts, it suits you better.

Yeah, good points by all, however, the 2011 Griz were only ranked as high as #11 in any preseason polls while this years team was as high as #8. Therefore, with the Griz finishing #3 (with a nasty * next to it, FU NCAA!!!) in 2011 and this season's Griz likely finishing this year lower than their preseason rank after their poor playoff showing, an argument could be made that this year's team underachieved while the 2011 team overachieved.

The fact that that many Griz player's had a shot at the NFL (how many are starters or currently or ever actually played???) doesn't matter much to me in this discussion when that team made a deep playoff run and came up one poor half (in 3 playoff games) and 3 points short of a national championship appearance while this team lost their first playoff game at home with something like 3 poor quarters of play. An argument could be made that each team struggled in a lot of games they won and lost and much like the 2011 semifinal loss the Griz were getting blown out in 2 games this season before mounting comebacks that came up just short.

How any of this debate could be about who is a better head coach between Pflu and Delaney is beyond me. Had Pflu led the last two Griz teams I would bet lots of money that they would have had more success than they did. Not that there is anything wrong with what they accomplished this season but Pflu missing the playoffs at 7-4 is not like Delaney missing them at 5-6, just like 2011 is nothing like 2013.

My point was just that one coach was capable of leading the Griz deep in the playoffs while it remains to be seen if the other can ever win a playoff game.

This is what is written on a 1995 UM Championship poster in my office:

"PR,

Dartmouth would have been fun, but Montana was great.

Funny, on my '95 championship poster it reads:

AZ,

I wouldn't have gone to Dartmouth if they'd paid me. Harvard? Maybe....

Dave"

Good thing he didn't go to Dartmouth. He would have had to sit behind Jay Fielder, who was recruited the previous year.

And this is written on mine:

It's Fiedler, gentlemen. Not to be confused with Cecil Fielder. :o

So... did anyone see Nate Montana play the other night?

No, but Nick (the UW transfer) played early in the game--and then seemed to get replaced.

My bad. Nick at Tulane? I'm starting to get bowl blur early this year.
