I don't get why people are taking HHB to task on this. The premise that the UM defense was helped, (to what degree is unknowable), by the loss of their #1 potential All-American QB, is reasonable.

It's not as if he's saying the D sucked all game, just that the outcome could well have been very different, so less was proven than would have otherwise been. That's reasonable. He said it was a gutsy win.

Enjoy it. Sheesh

I'm not saying Helena is wrong. Anyone with any sense at all knows NAU's offense would have produced today with Cookus in the game. But by Helena's rationale, then Griz fans should get the same rationale when discussing Montana's offense in EVERY single game AFTER the UDUB game. The Griz have played the ENTIRE Big Sky schedule to date with 1. A backup RS-Freshman QB who NEVER planned on starting a game this season, 2. the end of the Weber game with the No. 3 QB who hadn't gotten a 1st-team rep since August, AND 3. an H Receiver who hadn't thrown a meaningful pass in more than 700 days.

Or better yet, I'll just let one of the team leaders explain it for you.

My only rationale was stating that the Griz defense, today, benefited from Cookus getting tossed. People don't have to agree with it, but trying to give credibility to it by using hypotheticals about the Griz offense don't disprove it. The Griz defense played a solid game against the team NAU put on the field. But I still don't get all Gooey thinking about the Griz defense based on this game. Sorry it gets so many peoples panties in a huge wad.

If all you had said in this thread is that the Griz benefited from Cookus getting tossed, I doubt that many, if any, would be jumping at you. You said and insinuated more.

Had Cookus remained in the game he might have been tackled fracturing his leg and dislocating his ankle. Who knows? Getting thrown out could have been the best thing that could have happened to him.

I know Cookus would have changed their offense and what they tried to do but the other 10 guys on the field are their players too and our defense beat them. Same o-line Cookus would have had and our pass rush was in the backfield quite a bit and very well may have made things difficult for Cookus as well.

Good post. I think UM would have beaten NAU even if Cookus hadn't been ejected. The Griz were just not going to lose this game. When Cookus went out, NAU had scored zero points. Had had to picked up a 4th down to keep first drive going. Otherwise would have been a 3 and out. He was 4-6 for 44 yards. Sacked once. My view is that Cookus would have been hit, hurried, and sacked so often, that his game would have gone south. His post-ejection tirade shows that he didn't have the attitude or toughness to withstand the pressure the Griz would have put on him. I would't want a player who did what he did, going off the field, to be on my team. Total embarrassment. Plus, he didn't get screwed by the refs. He screwed up himself.

The only thing I know was that Cookus wasn't on NAUs o-line which our D penetrated nearly at will.

Griz had 7 sacks and 10 TFL's. Had the NAU qb not been so mobile and fast, UM would have had 4 or 5 more sacks.

You are 100% right, of course. The true frosh NAU QB looked just like any kid would look who had to play his first snaps in a big game in Washington/Griz stadium. These posters gloating about how great our defense looked seem to forget how easily Cookus moved NAU down the field resulting in a missed chip-shot FB before Cookus was ejected. IMO, Cookus would have torched us for 400 passing yards if he had stayed. If I am wrong, please tell me why.

Because it didn't happen. Apparently you don't live in Realville. Trying to cheapen the game that the kids worked their asses off to win just makes you look like a jerk. Cookus made a YUGE mistake and may very well have cost his team the game. Too bad. Any other supposition as to what happened is stupid.

Perfect thanks.

Would really like to see where I stated anything about any of this. What I did say is IMO the Griz defense doesn't look that good if Cookus plays the entire game and doesn't get held to 15.

But...He was ejected. As we're Alexander and Schye last week. You can if and but as ll day long, but this team has done things that we were unable to do lady year. Win on the road, and find a way to win when things go against you. OMG, we beat the number one team in the conference with a back up/ part time starting H back playing at quarterback. Just STAND appreciate what happened today. This was old school Washington Grizzly magic. Embrace it brother!!!!

Agreed: I'd like to see how the Red Sox would have done if they hadn't traded Ruth and how Tiger would be if he'd shut his phone off, but those things didn't happen. Try reality, it's not as nice as your world but in it the Griz are 6-3 and beat #9 in the country.

What if Custer would have had a tank battalion and air support on the Little Big Horn?

What are the rules of engagement? I'm just asking cause it would make a difference.

You are correct. Don't be intimidated by collective stupidity, rarely found within the universe of Griz Nation, but flourishing like hyper-incubated guppies in an aquarium on this site.

And all of it gathered up in one nice, neat little package with a bow on it in the name of whitefishbear/Stevie/pickleboy/growler and about a dozen other screen names.

Bitch about the special teams....special teams scores a TD.

Bitch about the D. D gives up 15 and basically wills the Griz to a win.

Keep bitching motherfuckers....there's a 3-year extension on the horizon, along with an 8-3 record and playoff berth.
You would bitch.... about any other loyal Griz fans with opinions different than yours. Classy name-calling while you're at it. Worse than Cookus.
