Pathetic Officiating in Monday Night Game

So you're including the possible chance for an NFL job??? Why wouldn't they try to be their best??? That being said, Craig Ferguson's robot could do a better job

So are they using Big Sky refs as replacements.

Not that Im aware ... but on the Dan Patrick show this morning it was mentioned that one of the refs for last nights game had just been recently fired form the lingerie league ... though they didn’t say why.

No Big Sky guys. Their boss is an ex-NFL ref. If they crossed the line they wouldn't work BSC again. I'm not aware of and D-1 guys working--all D-II/D-III/NAIA guys.

There's a NAIA guy from Boise. Worked the Dallas/NYG game opening night.
They were saying on SportsCenter last night that one of the refs was a D-III guy... :|

I believe the ref that called the interception was reported as the most experienced in the crew, DIII and DII experience, the one that called the TD was fired from high school reffing or something - just crazy.

However as it's been pointed out - there were a lot of bad calls both ways, it's not just those two guys fault, that whole crew was/is inept and this falls on the shoulders of the NFL, it's owners, and the Referee's Union in terms of "blame".

It doesn't look like this has been posted yet, but the NFL has released an official statement on the final play of the game:

"The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review."

Company line - what else are they going to say? If they go the other way it's more pandemonium (sp).

They also said a PI should've been called on the Seattle WR that would have ended the game, giving argument to both sides that they should have won the game.

DUUHHHHH... You know what question marks mean???

Saw this online. Not very funny but like one part.

-- Jim Core, whom we've discussed before, is the activities director at Sawtooth Middle School in Meridian, Idaho. He's also officiated in the Frontier Conference. As we all know, there's nothing that trains you for the speed of the NFL experience like a rousing game between Dickinson State University and Montana Tech.

So on his resume...it would show that He's worked all the BIG time Venues like Seattle, Pittsburgh, S.F.,Dallas, Butte, and the Badlands. :)

Here is a much better angle on the catch that I had not seen before:

http://landing.newsinc.com/shared/video.html?freewheel=91052&sitesection=kcpq&VID=23823733

Notice that Jennings DID NOT have the ball against his chest when he hit the ground. Simultaneous control. I rest my case.

(Unfortunately, you have to get through the ad to view the video)

Actually, this shows, definitively, that Jennings did have possession and control of the ball. He has the ball firmly tucked in his right arm and against his body. He doesn't have to have ball tucked to his chest to have control and a catch. His right arm is curved around the ball, somewhat similar to how a runner might carry the ball. Tate does not have control of the ball with either hand or arm. Tate is trying to pull the ball with his right arm/hand, which is basically pulling on Jennings right arm/hand, not the ball. The reason that Jennings pulls the ball to his chest and to the left, and then pulls the ball completely away from Tate, is because he has control of the ball and Tate doesn't. Nice try, but again, no cigar. It's not even a close call.

"completely away from Tate"? In what universe? Show me any pictures where Tate does not have at least one hand (his left) on the ball at any time during that exchange.

Did you not notice Jennings get up with the ball and walk away from the pile with the ball a few seconds after the play occurred?

That means nothing because the play was already over by then. Given that they rolled around on the ground together with both of each of their hands firmly on the ball, simultaneous possession was established.

I noticed Tate come out of the pile several minutes later holding the ball celebrating...so no

Lance Easley, the ref who signaled the TD:
Lance Easley -- the NFL replacement ref who made the TD call in Monday night's Packers vs. Seahawks game tells TMZ ... he stands by his decision, adamantly saying, "It was the correct call."

Easley told us he can't believe he's being vilified ... "I didn't do anything wrong."

He says strongly ... the Packers player who allegedly intercepted the ball never had singular possession because, "You have to not only have the ball but have either 2 feet or a body part on the ground, and that never happened."

Easley says this was clearly a case of simultaneous possession -- meaning the catch goes to the offensive player -- adding, "Put any other official who knows the rules and they would make the same call."

Easley told us, no one has ever seen a play like this before, so there's no point of reference to judge the call. He says, "I don't appreciate the negative stuff."

Easley says he feels like he's become a sacrificial lamb, who had to "fall on the sword."

The best line I heard on ESPN. Russell will go down in the history of the league as being the only QB to throw a game winning interception for his team.
