I think 90% of the problems are parents and children finding out for the first time in their lives they are not all snowflakes. They are not the best athlete in the world, and many of them are lazy shits and have a sense of entitlement. Any person who would coach a sport where you pick who plays has to be high as hell. God forbid little Johnny doesn't play. Wrestling, track, cross country, tennis, golf... Why isn't my kid varsity? Because they aren't the best and here is the proof. You're not Joe Montana and neither is your kid, in fact they look more like Chunk from Goonies than an actual athlete and maybe that's why they didn't play.

HERE HERE !!!

Yep 100%..having coached a varsity sport at a AA school, this is so mind blowing, how entitled kids are these days. I had 3 go to quotes I used to tell my players, who happened to be 16-18 yr old girls whenever they complained to me.

1) Life only gets more difficult and competitive from here on out, you might as well start getting used to it here.

2) Theres over a billion Chinese that don't give a shit.

3) Hunger Games... RULES CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

All were affective :thumb:

I would not be conceited enough to say I have seen it all. Mostly because I haven't. However, after almost 20 years experience, both coaching and umpiring little and senior league baseball, I saw & listened enough to know that it was time for me to get out. Strangely, I NEVER had a problem with any of the players, but OMG, the parents!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to be a whiner but how does any of this matter or pertain to Montana Grizzlies Football and the FCS?
We clearly have another candidate for the Griz HC job.

Fits within 6 degrees of separation. They'll let it stay.

That's probably why the Eastern Bloc used to take kids away from their parents and train them the way they wanted.

Coaching a team of orphans would be OK.....

Geezus this made me laugh. And how true!

Parents are huge problems with youth sports. They can't just sit there and enjoy the game. The've GOT to rewind the clock, to insert themselves in the current game, as if it was 1985 again!

Come to think of it, there are a few on this board that act exactly like the parents you have been talking about.

Three biggest potential hurdles with coaching High School sports:
1) parents
2) school board or (principal)
3) the kids (distant 3rd)
If there is a year that all of these factions let the coach coach, it is a surely a rarity.

Go Griz!

I know Pat Murphy very well. He is a great coach and an even better person! He was dealing with a bunch of cry babies (parents and players) that thought boycotting practices was the way to strong arm their will. He played the players that showed up to practice and truly wanted to be a part of Bruin football! Obviously, some feelings were hurt  He will be sorely missed on the sidelines of Vigilante Stadium.

I guess when I was a kid my parents neglected me. They didn't attend any of my practices or games, neither did any of the other parents. They weren't overly wrapped up in and living vicariously their children's lives; they were living their own. We learned to ride the pine when it was called for and didn't spend a whole lot of (if any) time thinking about who was better. The coach made the calls PERIOD. It might have even been fun to coach back then. It sure was fun playing!
