Pass interference in end zone

During our game yesterday, there was a pass interference call on Sac State in the end zone. The ball was spotted on the 7 yard line first and goal Griz.
Why wasn't it spotted on the two yard line first and goal?
If I remember right, it was a play starting from inside the 20 yard line.
Seemed wrong to me at the time, but I think we scored a TD anyway.
Go Griz!

Not a spot foul like the NFL.

Seems odd that it isn't on all PI calls in the end zone.

Checked the play-by-play. That would have been the drive about half-way through the 3rd quarter. The Griz were on the Sac State 22 yard line when the pass interference penalty was called. The 15 yard penalty was marched off from the "previous spot" down to the 7 yard line. I suppose the fact that the infraction occurred in the End Zone was why they marched off the full amount rather than half the distance ... that is, down to the 11 yard line.

I believe they march off the full 15 yards because the line of scrimmage was at the 22.

I think you're right, Ida. The college rule for defensive PI is automatic first down, and ball at the spot of the foul but no further from line of scrimmage than 15 yards. Thus, long PI's are only 15 yard penalties. It looks like the spotting of the ball is not a half the distance thing.

Recall that there was a PI a week or so ago, that involved Cam Warren. Ball was placed at the 2. Can't recall the down situation and where the PI occurred. It may have been a shorter pass, and the PI may have been at the 2. It was in the south end zone on the west side line.
