But I know, we're just little ol' montany. No way the likes o' us could go compete with them ol' big guys. Let's just be quiet and be satisfied with this here shit conference.
What conference is available that would have that $20 million split?
And your other stated goal is just to be out of the Big Sky? Aimed pretty high for that one!
Currently none. But what happens when there is? Will we as fans support it?
Look, moving out of the bsc to a real conference should be EVERY fan's primary goal. But it's the residuals that come along with that move that will make it awesome.
That's where I always seem to come back. It feels like there are three main groups: (1) People who want move up ASAP; (2) People who genuinely don't ever want to move up (people who make bowl game jokes); and (3) People who know we're trapped now, but want UM to be in position when/if the time comes because we won't be able to mull it over and do studies for six years before deciding.
I guess I don't ever think the "there's no FBS conference for us to join" narrative makes the current BSC any better.
We've already had at least 2 of those studies done and they both said such a move wasn't financially or facility-wise feasible. We have struggled with a $1 million athletic deficit and a $10 million academic deficit. What makes us think we wouldn't suffer the same outcome as the schools listed previously? Where will the additional $$$ come from? We're not he drunken sailors of Congress that can just kick the can down the road.
