I am not sure where our defense stands, but it does not suck. Sometimes we forget there are players at the other side who obviously can play the game. The goal-line stands and the turnovers are encouraging. That has been a hallmark of our successful teams in the past.
But I want to talk some specifics. It appears that teams are taking advantage of our aggressive front with QB scrambles in passing situations. NAU certainly did. Both McDonough and the backup quarterback for Portland State had success running through seams in our pass rush on third-down passing situations, gaining 10-12 yards before the linebackers or secondary arrive. Is this because we have the linebackers drop back so far in the cover 2? I have not watched the PSU game a second time, but I thought we tried to be more disciplined in our four-man rush in the second half. However, it took away our aggressiveness and gave PSU more time to throw.
