Other Coaching Changes?

I think, more than anything, he went to Weber to be able to coach with his old Wazzu buddy. And, let's be honest, he can't help but have heard the whining (mine included) of Griz fans about his play-calling.... When it's good to get out, take the opportunity.
It's all about job security; it's better for him at Weber than here. My guess is he knew he would not be a candidate for the eventual HC opening here.

The Griz started down this slippery slope the day O'Day hired Pflu, knowing he was hell bent on changing 20 years of unparalleled success, and molding the new Griz to his football philosophy. Posters cheered, stating, among other things, "bring it on Pflu!" Well, it's here, and I'd expect it to get a lot worse before, if ever, it gets better. Don't be surprised by ANYTHING that happens in the next nine months.

Coaches with options move on. Coaches without options, and a boss older than Moses, wait around like frogs in a kettle.

This. No one with any sense and talent wants to be the last rat off a sinking ship.

That being said, MD still has the opportunity to take the honorable path and resign, and we can hope that the NCAA will conclude whatever it needs to do to wrap up outstanding issues. With a little luck, the timing of TR moving on could be a good thing.

Why? Do you know what the NCAA is going to report? I heard not much-but I don't know that. More coaches leaving? I really don't know that and neither do you. I know we have a bunch of great kids who will work hard every day and play they're guts out to succeed. I know that Washington Grizzly Stadium won't be empty. I say let the AD, coaches, and royce deal with the stuff and if in fact they choose to put the university in a position of failure then whatever... but I really don't expect that.

Like I said in the Rosey thread, I hear rumblings about Baker and Green right behind Rosey and out the door. Not to Weber per se, but out. Take it with a grain of salt, but the source also said Rosey would be gone today and we all know how that shook out.

And add Burtnett and the Special Teams coach to that rumor.

Bigkid, this is not a personal attack, please bear with me.
I have no idea what, if anything, the NCAA will find. This never ending investigation, with guilt assumed by the NCAA and our administration, is what is killing the program. The current coaches have, at most, one year to find something else. The effects of this 'limbo' will be felt in recruiting, as has been posted by many. The current team busted some major ass in putting together a great game against the cats. One game out of eleven. WGS will not be empty, but a continuation of this years performance into next year will be felt at the gate, and in the bottom line at local businesses. It manifested itself this year in prolonged tailgating and early fourth quarter exits. I don't believe in letting the "AD, coaches, and royce" keep running this program into the ground if there is anything I can do to prevent it. At this point, the only thing I can possibly do is post here, e-mail those who can make a positive change, and urge others with some clout to DO SOMETHING!
I will not sit back and wring my hands and bemoan what is going on. I am trying to get the Griz Nation off its collective ass, to do whatever they can do to stop this disaster. I may be naïve, but at least I'm trying.
Rant over, stepping down off my soapbox.

There are three types of people in the world. Those who make things happen, whose who watch things happen, and those who say.........what happened?

There must be a fourth.......those that over-speculate what is happening.

I certainly understand and respect every coach, and all they deal with. Insecurity professionally sucks, and lingers until you do something about it. No hard will or bad words from me for any coach that moves on. To be honest, I don't like accusations being assumed toward Rosenbach. Most anyone with a family, and wanting security can and should respect that.

Spanky is right, quit bitching and expecting changes within from the players, coaches, and AD. All this bullshit falls on the shoulders of Engstrom. This man, needs to be out as President. The ship will have many holes in it, as long as he is here.

Bitching is what this site is all about. Without it, it could be assumed the e-fans are content, just don't care, or approve of whats happening. To remain silent, is tacit approval. Sheep on!

If you were a coach who hired on at UM in 2010, you inherited a team that came within 3 points of winning a national championship. It missed the playoffs your first year and had it's worst showing in 17 years despite being loaded with talent. The next year you made the semi finals, but the year after that you posted a losing record. At some point your best year starts to look like a fluke to a casual observer. Maybe it makes sense to get out while the getting is good.

Burtnett is probably ready to go, he was pretty much on his way to retirement before landing at UM. Like Rosie, he was on staff for only a few weeks before the coach that hired him was fired. Chances are he never even mey Delaney before Pflu's firing.

Suiaunoa has no real ties to Griz tradition. His guys play well. He probably has options.

Not sure about Williams.

Oviatt is another Pflu guy close to retirement when Pflu hired him. He could probably go.

Gregorak stays. He's not going to be DC anywhere else. His wife also coaches at UM, which anchors him a bit. And schools weren't exactly knocking the door down to hire him when UM got him on the rebound.

Baker, Gragg and Green are alums. Gragg is probably better off than the other two having played 10 years in the NFL. He probably doesn't have to sweat his next paycheck. Baker with his recruiting ties in Arizona and high school coaching experience is probably pretty marketable. Green hasn't been a position coach long, but has good pro experience to market.

I won't speak for any of the others, but Rob Oviatt isn't going anywhere, including retiring. If you've ever talked to him, you'll understand why I say that. He lives and dies Griz football and will probably have to be buried underneath the Griz' weight room someday.

It's easy to tie Rosie leaving to a 5-6 season, but until he PUBLICLY says he left because A. The Griz suck, and B. Delaney is a lame duck coach, I'll choose to believe he left for the reasons he gave in today's press release.

I'm no stenographer, but I take Rosenbach at his word, too. He said Weber is headed in the right direction and there is a comitment to the program. His words.
Griz fans seem to bristle at the suggestion that Weber could be more attractive than UM, but the two schools are in similar situations having abruptly lost head coaches and been handed over to interim coaches, both of whom are sticking around. If Rosenbach says direction and commitment were what appealed to him at Weber, I believe him. He doesn't have to run down Delaney or UM.

Don't think Gregorak's wife coaches at UM. Burnett came to UM to win a national championship.

Interesting speculation and consternation on the board as of late. Mine is not focused on the coaching per say, but on the recruiting. We could have a gap of one, two or three years where we have sub par talent (we may already have that in the secondary). I fear for those years. Does not matter who coaches - talent is talent. Losing coaches certainly will not help when you are talking to an 18 year old kid and he wants to know what offensive or defensive philosophy you have. We can only hope that history, past success, facilities and fan base continue to make the U of M an attractive option for recruits.

....some have asked if we will make the play-offs next year. If we don't have solid recruiting, we won't make the play-offs for several years.

Gregorak's wife, Kandice Kelly, coached volleyball at UM until taking a job at North Idaho College earlier this year.

Yes, I know where she is and where she's been. I was just responding to this part of an earlier post of yours. See below. I liked your summary of the coaches' situation, by the way.

"His wife also coaches at UM, which anchors him a bit."

On merit, these last two coaches should be fired.

I didn't realize Kelly had taken a coaching job at NIC. I'm not familiar with Griz Volleyball at all.
My guess is that Gregorak would still be unlikely to leave Montana this year, though. We'll see.
