"Old" Dornblaser

This was a bit before my time...I do remember the stadium on Higgins. This looks like the present location of Washington Grizzly. Why did they move off campus to Higgins? Thanks for the info...

I don't think that is present day Wa-Griz Site. You can see main hall right there. I know I'm a young guy comparatively, but this seems further South from current stadium.

The field was attached to the old men's gym. That was where the locker rooms were. Some more greats Dick Imer, Doug Dasinger, and many more. The great all American from Idaho Ray Mcdonad a huge running back.

My primary recollection re the original Dornblaser was when new Griz coach Ted Shipkey and family moved in as our Pattee Canyon neighbors. They had three young kids, two of them bracketing me in age. Ted was one in a series of coaches who tried to make gold out of dross at a time when most MSU ( as it was known then) administrators just wanted football to simply disappear. Other than football, what I remember most about his brief tenure were his wife Gertrude's dynamite apple pies. Yum...

That white 3-story building on the NE corner of Main was a "temporary" for classrooms for the returning vets from WWII, financed by the GI Bill. I attended classes in that bldg in late '50s.

First of all, thanks for sharing the great photo of Dornblaser. Yes, I do remember it and I can remember watching a cat vs GRIZ game there when I was still in HS. As for the Chimney Corner...of course I do when I attended MSU and graduated from UofM! I never left Missoula to do so either! ;)

Thanks for that info. My wife asked me what that one was and I didn't know. :thumb:

The Field House is in plain site in the picture (before recent expansion). Anyone that has been to Washington Griz Stadium knows the stadium is just east of the Field House (Adams Center).

I'm still a youngin' but this photo is fascinating. That is the Adam's Center in the background, correct? Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome. As kemijac said in the post above, it was known to us as just "The Field House" when that was taken.
