Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't you one of the ones pointing out the lack of athleticism in the team? Combine that with no leadership, and I just don't see how this team was going to be successful. Of course, no one anticipated the loss of a couple recruits prior to the season, or the fact no one steped up to lead. Add inthe 8th best FT shooting team, and close games became an L more often than not.
I am glad the season is over and the Griz can address the deficiencies in the off season and prepare for next year. Qvale said it himself Monday that this team needs to get stronger, and tougher.
I like hearing a player admit to any weakness and own up to something. That from a Freshman, that is encouraging. Also GB beat me to mentioning the loss of a few players. We had no true 3 this year. The loss of Watson was huge. This would be similar to any football team losing a starting WR, and Starting RB. I say that because Watson was not the biggest piece to the GRIZ puzzle, but was a key piece. Most anyone would agree QB is the biggest key in FB, I feel the loss of our only 3 was very equal to a FB team losing any 2 other starters offensively other than QB. Defensively it is equal to losing your starting Safety and MLB. We as fans do not realize how important every position is. In Basketball your starting SF is suppose to be a combination of everything skill wise with good height. This team lost that athleticism, height, and versatility when we loss Watson.
I guarantee with the additions of Taylor and McGillis being able to add those key elements to the GRIZ we will see a much improved team and record.
For you baseball fans this very similar to losing your #2 pitcher and your SS at the same time. I think Tinkle saw this too, and in turn chose to develop Staudacher this year at his true 2 position, rather than detering his progress as an overmatched 3. The others that played 3 just were not quick enough or have the skill set to be a 3. Next year when Staudacher is lighting it up, McGillis and Taylor giving us minutes at 3, we will be all thankful for Tinks choosing to develop Stauds this year at his true position, instead of waiting on it. I am confident this team will be very successful next year, and go at least 11-5 in the BSC. To be honest I do not care about OOC record due to the BSC being a 1 bid league. Keep the Faith. :thumb:
