So who justifies your existence? Get a life! Sorry that the coach that you can't stand has got standout kids, good students, socially responsible men, and good basketball players to step foot on Dahlberg Arena's floor. Seems to me somebody is doing something right. Apparently your tunnel vision is creating issues for you!

The men's program should have standout kids, good students, socially responsible men regardless of who is the head coach. The Griz do have good talent and talent that should not be going 2-4 to start off the season. It's not like they are playing the same schedule as Gonzaga. Six games one win against an NAIA and the other against a very low Division 1 program that probably won't win more than 4-5 games this year. Whether you Tinkle supporters like it or not the responsibility falls on his shoulders and that's the only point I See Robo trying to make.

Sugar Bear, it's easy to say "the men's program should have standout kids, good students, socially respoinsible men regardless of who is the head coach." It's another thing to achieve it. Look around. It's a very delicate balance to achieve nearly the highest team grade-point average in the nation, plus keep the doors of opportunity open to Montana kids who want to play basketball at the Division I level, plus win as many games as the fans would want their team to win (which is all of our games, right?). This is a team effort, and the players and coaches are up to the task. The only people who need to "justify their existence" are the whiners who post cheap shots in here from the cheap seats. But, hey, that's the price of a free country.

You know I have been wondering this for about a week now ever since this thread appeared.

As far as I know it has been "PROPOSED" by O'Day that Tinkle receive a new three year contract, but as far as I know the Regents have not been approved it yet!? Am I wrong in assuming this?

could give 2 Shi+s if the players are from Montana or New Orleans, chnces are they will keep their nose clean. WOULD much rather have a national recruiting base than a 100 mile circumference that produces losing seasons. Tinkle may me a recruiter (yet to be seen) but he's a losing, talentless coach.
Prove me wrong! have a a 3 year sample now that proves me right. LOSER!

Sadly, there will always be a few wannabe's -- the lonely souls who never were, but so badly want to be. This includes the ineptly unqualified morons who pretend to know basketball and who take annonymous cheap shots at coaches from the cheap seats. If you're going to call out players or coaches by name, why not put a name and a face on yourself? I think we all know the answer.

That's a very good question. I don't know if they would even report on something like that or where one could even look.

If I performed my my job with the same ineptitude that Tinkle does I would be fired. His hiring was a joke, no head coaching experience. The fact that there is consideration to keep him, even bigger joke. There are dozens of d-2 coaches who inspire, live, breath, and eat basketball who were passed over for this clown.
He has talented players playing lazy basketball, learned from a lazy coach. Yes I wanted to play CBB, 6'2" forwards aren't in high demand, but I know piss poor play and piss poor coaching when I see it, and I see it every time Wayne Tinkle undeservingly takes the sidelines.

Wow, Robomomo. You wanted to play? Tell us your name so we can look up your high school records.

If you're "tough" enough to keep calling out coaches by name, why can't we learn yours, dude?

I think we all know the answer.

I fully and whole heartedly retract the majority of the statements I made on this thread. Instead of sitting idle and hoping that everyone forgets my early commentary on Tinkle I take full responsibility and admit I was short sighted in my evaluation of him. At the time of his I thought he was a byproduct of a good old boys network at it's best, and simply put I thought he had no potential or desire to grow as a head coach. Tinkle is a shadow of his former self in a good way, he a AAA recruiter and has become a sound X and O caller. I will still not pretend he's the best coach in the NCAA, however I find fewer and fewer reasons to be critical of him. I can really only point to the Idaho State game and say WTF??? He has grown the way a red shirt freshman would through his junior year and I look forward to Tinks senior season.

  Personally, I hope we see Tinkle as GRIZ coach for many years. I am so sick of this being a revolving door job. :thumb:

I am trying to get on board also. I know he is a great man, father, and a decent coach but I need more than one half of basketball where a player goes completely Jordan to squeak out a win in a huge game to convince me he is the guy to lead this program for years to come. I really hope I am wrong and maybe I am.

Lets win a game in the dance now!!!

Leading UM to only our 13th 20 win season in history with a freshman point guard is a good addition to TInkle's resume. It's been a pretty great season, not just one half of a game.

Losing Johnson will be big, but I think bringing in two very talented guards Autry and Jamar is huge. The Griz have relied so much on JC transfers for our athletic guards in the past. If their first year is sort of an adjustment/transitional year, you only get one solid year from them and they are gone by the time fans are really getting used to them. If Tinkle can keep up the good recruiting, it will revive the whole program. If we can start getting 3 or 4 solid years of contribution from our guards rather than 1 or 2, it will go a long way in consistency.

I am so happy for Tinks's and the Griz program, but the best move Tink's made this year was getting Kurt Paulson to be a grad assistant. When you watch the games, it is Paulson who is the spark plug on the bench. The fire and passion that he gives every game is starting to rub off on the players and Tinkle. I, being a Carroll/Griz fan, just hope they don't steal Garland this off-season!

With all due respect to young Mr Paulson, the real key addition was Freddie Owens. Ask the players. especially Johnson about Coach Ownes. When Freddie puts on the shorts at practice, he is far and away the best player on the floor. Paulson will get there, but Freddie has made a bigger impact thus far.

Freddie Owens

The 2009-10 season will mark Freddie Owens’ first year as an assistant coach at Montana. He was hired in May 2009.

Owens spent last season as a graduate assistant coach at Iowa State, where he handled film exchange and various administrative duties and assisted in scouting.

Prior to his stint at ISU, Owens was an assistant coach at Adams State (Colo.), where he assisted in game-day preparation, scouting and film editing.

Owens played professionally in Latvia in 2005-06 and was an AAU coach for a season before joining the Adams State coaching staff in 2007. The Grizzlies went 18-10 in 2007-08, recording their most wins since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 1992-93.

A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Owens was a starter for Wisconsin in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and concluded his four-year career with the Badgers with 796 points. The 6-2 guard was on two Big Ten regular-season championship teams (2002, ’03) and one Big Ten tournament championship squad (2004).

Wisconsin qualified for NCAA tournament play in all four of Owens’ seasons at Wisconsin. The Badgers made a Sweet 16 appearance in 2003 when Owens hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to defeat Tulsa.

Owens prepped at Washington High School in Milwaukee where he was a two-year starter. His high school basketball teams were the state runners-up his freshman and senior seasons. His senior basketball squad was 24-2, and he was ranked the third best guard in the state that year.

He earned a degree in life sciences and communications from Wisconsin in 2005.

As a fan of "The Badgers", I remember him well... Great post 'Backer... Freddie was a great all-around player. You only get better by facing the best competition, and I'll bet Freddie gives AJ and Cherry all they can handle and then some ... but how the heck did we get him to Missoula, and a better question, yet... How do we keep him!
