Ohio State AD not impressed w/ 1-AA

To be honest.. The whole FCS playoff system is messed up. There is no reason why so many teams have to be in there, its diluted! They should make it a 12 team system not 24..

I don't get why people act like the playoffs are mixed drink or something. You could argue that 24 is too many, but there's no legitimate reason to have fewer than 16. More football isn't a bad thing.

This Gee guy has been a dick on the wrong side of history forever. He and other established AD's fought a playoff system from the begining as didn't want to lose control of the big buck bowl games. Now they are all fighting expansion to 8 and it will take years to move them off the dime. 8 is perfect for FBS and 12 for FCS......no more, no less. Florida State would have played Alabama under the old system this year imho. Think of all the great matchups lost over the last few years because of fossils like the arrogant Gee.

Yeah, Im picking up what you're laying down..

It just drags the season out way too long. The playoffs should be wrapped up by the end of the year not 2 weeks after the new year.

Having 24 teams in the playoffs just plays into "lets give everyone a ribbon" crowd. There will never be a team that wins the championship, that wasn't seeded...

I can see an expanded playoff being hard on athletes. With that said, it is done for every major sport at every other college level. It is the fairest system out there (which the big boys don't like). I wonder what his thoughts of college basketball season consuming basketball players from October through March for teams that do advance far in post season tournaments? Bad teams have their players deal with 5 months of commitment. Tournament teams have 6 month commitments. Football is pretty much August 10th (it varies) to Thanksgiving for the regular season. For Bowl/Playoff programs it really does not extend the season, rather than no games, they are playing games.

The schedule and commitment for NCAA basketball is much more extensive than football. It is just as much of a challenge as football is for the players, coaches, and programs. Sorry, but if big schools are so opposed this, I better see them making efforts to reduce the seasons for their basketball players too. We all know that will not happen. It is all about the money in college athletics. The big schools are greedy and want to decrease the chances of smaller schools. I hate the arrogant asses of the major conferences. Being as it is, I have to say "GO Ducks". Let's see a championship brought west.

One thing that can be said for the playoffs, when it's done there's no arguing who is the best team. I'm all for 8 teams, let the best team win. Probably hates to admit that the "big dogs" are the last to figure this out.

I got two words for the Ohio State AD and it is not Merry Christmas !!! GO DUCKS

The Ducks will roll OSU. If they aren't used to defending tempo you don't learn how in one week in practice. Even practicing it is hard because I'm sure OSU's practice squad cant run tempo like Oregon.

I agree but it will be a better game than Florida State

Interesting quote from the Ohio State AD today.. basically saying how an 8-team playoff wouldn't be good. On another note, 1-AA players aren't pampered like 1-A players are, practicing in $60million dollar facilities.. FCS players actually have to practice the old school way.

"I'm an old-school guy. I think (players) ought to be home for Christmas and days around Christmas," Smith said. "Think about the impact on their bodies. Now you take eight of the top teams and you ask them to go through their regular season. This is not (Division) I-AA football. This is not Division II football. This is (Ohio State defensive linemen) Mike Bennett and Joey Bosa vs. those guys on the Alabama offensive line."

He should encourage players to enroll at Montana State, forget Christmas they would be home for Thanksgiving every year.

The Ohio State AD is correct, bigger athletes pounding on you for more games is going to take its toll on a body over the course of several seasons. Ohio State will beat Oregon, better players, better coaching staff and the Buckeyes will not need a flag 8 seconds after the game is over to win this one in regulation.

Glad you picked OSU. One more reason the Ducks will win. You haven't been on the right side of any argument yet.

Just another tool who thinks everyone should get a trophy. Send them home for Christmas and come back in a couple weeks to play in the Pickled Asparagus Bowl. It's like a bad infomercial.

"Do you have a losing record? Did you finish last in your conference? Did you play in a stadium with more players than fans? No problem. Take your 5-6 record and spray it with a little FBS and your guaranteed a top 2 finish."

Go Ducks!
