Official Game Thread: Griz vs. Cal Poly/SLO

Bobby on the bullshit targeting:

"I don't know what my guy is supposed to do there. And I have no idea how to coach it"

Coach it in the MWC, Coach. Only option.
He's 1000% correct. There's no way to correct it except to tell them to not play hard which he will never ever ever ever ever ever do. And he shouldn't have to. The rule is stupid and needs to be fixed.

The offense did NOT play well today. The defense and special teams won the day. Didn’t think I’d have an opportunity to say that this season but here we are.
How much of Cal Polys stats were inflated in the 4th quarter though? They looked horrible until the griz started playing depth and then CP had some success.

92 of CP’s yards came in the 4th. Also, when a team runs a punt or KO back for a TD, that puts the other team’s O right back on the field…CP probably got an extra possession they otherwise would not have gotten, and the Griz got shorted one possession.

They were almost dead even all game. I was watching the stats quarter by quarter as the game went on.
58 yards in the first quarter
63 yards in the 2nd quarter
83 yards in the 3rd quarter
92 yards in the 4th quarter

Griz had:
118 in the first quarter
76 in the 2nd quarter
16 yards in 3rd quarter (PR TD and short field TD from Hustedt’s INT)
88 in 4th quarter

This is why stats can be so deceiving. We had just 39 more yards of ā€œoffenseā€, but waxed them by 35 points. The fact that return yardage isn’t counted in offensive production is really, really misleading. And Hustedt’s 29 yard INT return left us just 17 yards from paydirt…results in a lot of skewed statistics, and a blowout win.

Again, a new look by our Griz. I compared them to Sybil before, but this is getting old, real old. Never know from one week to the next what to expect. It's kinda like a season of 'Twilight Zone,' all about Griz football. Only thing missing is Rod Serling doing color/commentary.
But, we got Marty!

So now all we have is an end zone camera? This is fun. šŸ™„
Don’t know if you recall the game at Cal Poly, maybe 12 years ago, back when games were on ESPN3. There was one fixed camera, so the viewer actually SAW perhaps 10% of the game. The rest of the time it was the audio running over a camera pointed at a blank field, with no mention ever made of the missing video. We just shook our heads and listened.

Yep. I remember several games like that. Some we got audio with a little bit of video, some we got video but zero audio. One at Idaho State where the camera operator kept wildly swinging the camera from the field view up to the scoreboard and then back down to the field. I was seasick by the time the game was over. ESPN+ is a massive upgrade.

This year I have been going back and forth for the most part with the Cats and Griz when I’m watching games. White is have a stellar season and seems to be the go to guy this year, correct? I know Fontes is great too, I just don’t seem to hear his name as much this season. Is he being double teamed or did White pass him up?
