That would be a role reversal of epic proportions. I just looked at the stats and since Choate came in and implemented the championship culture and recipe including "Run the ball and stop the run", for which Vigen came in and even took up another notch..... The Cats AVERAGE 306 yards rushing vs the griz, and the griz AVERAGE.......... 87 yards rushing vs the Cats. That is staggering.

The Griz gave new coaches. Watch out.

Okay, let’s bet $250 on the game next fall.

Are you thinking Choate will help you from Texas?

It’s actually something that’s been done here a lot during our “glory years” and I think it will have better success. I’m sure Germer will do better with more focus on the interior, but I’m not sure if Phen is the best guy for the T/TE job.

Where are you getting that it was done a lot during the glory years?

Nope, I was definitely wrong and my memory failed me once again. I know, thanks to UofMMan though that it did happen under Pflugrad and I stand by that it might help Germer out. I just wish they’d have brought in someone with more T/TE experience then Phen who only focused on TE’s for 2 years at UNLV and has never focused solely on T’s his entire coaching career.

It might be a numbers issue. The O-line represents 5/11th of the team on the field. How many guys are backing up or in development? 20-25? That is 2-3 times the number of people the other positional coaches to track. The split of O-line coaching responsibility may be logical on that level.

That said, high school teachers have 170+ student each day, so 25 probably isn't a big ask.

I’m not saying it can’t be done. I just don’t quite understand the feasibility of how it works in practice. The OL has to work as a unit to be at its best. 5 players working as one. Same line calls, they’re drilling together, etc…just seems like then you’d need both coaches there. And if both coaches are with the OL, what the heck are the TE’s doing? Maybe I’m overthinking the whole thing. I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t have Germer with the OL and Phen with just the TE’s. When the TE’s have to practice blocking send them to work the the OL unit.

griz nation should probably brace for a rough year of r two to get all these changes implemented and tuned up. Then we’ll see f they lead to having a team that can compete with the upper echelon….. SDSU, MSU, NDSU, etc. lol

The Cats had better brace themselves for getting run over by the Griz;

21-55 with most of the scoring done by the backups (and against the backups) doesn’t lead to a lot of confidence in a reversal next year. One can always hope, but realistically seems unlikely.

The Championship Culture that went a touch better than .500?

The master of illusion strikes again. Only change here is that Pease gets the back seat of Bobby's driftboat. Rosie rows on Mondays and Wednesdays and Germer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bobby as usual gets the front seat and hogs all the good water for himself. Change is hiring an o-line coach from Wisconson like the cats did creating a pipeline for big midwest lineman. Saddest part about it is that some of you meatballs buy into this as change.

You must not have noticed our pipeline the last few years into Minnesota and Nebraska with guys like Gillman and Genatone. And even down into Texas now with Iverson Young. Those guys are all pretty good. The cats hired a guy who hardly has any experience working as an Oline coach. I actually like the changes we've made and I think Pease is far more experienced and successful as a play caller. Plus maybe you missed the part where Bobby mentioned there would be wholesale changes made to the offense.

My guess is it’ll probably be more like Germer w/ the line and Phen w/ the TE’s as you say but Hauck has felt pressure to publicly make a change and these may appease the masses some. After all Phen has zero experience working solely w/ the T’s but does have a couple years working only w/ TE’s.

Oh silly PR, we've been through this. Yes, I have $250 to burn, No I don't money bet on the Cats (Bad mojo). MAYBE I'll let you lose a bottle of Blanton's to me, but will revisit that in the Fall.

You don’t have enough confidence in your team to bet on them.

He didn't say anything, but I believe it was you who said the defense hasn't been the problem and you were hoping for changes on offense. Well there you have it, you got your changes. Now why don't you calm down and remain open minded and wait and see what kind of changes are made schematically during Spring Ball on Offense?

These are not the changes I was hoping to see on this side of the ball.

Calm down? :coffee:

Probably time to move on from the critical thinking. Nothing you say mattters. At this point we all know your opinion. It is what it is, and its time to accept and move forward. Next year, if you're right, you can complain again - and maybe see the type of changes you desire. Im an optomist every year, and expect great results.

Looking at the records when the teams have played, the Cats appear to have little chance. 73-42 for Griz.

"As of 2022, the game has been played 121 times. Montana officially leads the all-time series 73–42–5 (.629), with one Montana victory (2011) having been vacated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)."

Now THIS is the equivalent of deck chairs on the Titanic.
Mr. Negative refuses to recognize the BH quote that there will be wholesale changes to the way they do things on O. It doesn't fit your narrative that BH is too stubborn to change anything. He pretty much said the same thing with the D changes. Confident in your ability to find new areas to throw shade on.

How bout this. I’ll believe “wholesale changes” when I see them in action. LOVE the defensive changes, but these “changes” leave a lot to be desired. Between Pease, Phenice and Rosey there may not be enough earplugs to handle all the screaming going on…

I think these changes are more significant than some realize. Talking to Pease, I think he has a better understanding of how to implement his offense and recognize matchups and playcall accordingly. Instead of a bunch of discord amongst team and staff, there has been alot of identifying shortcomings so far this offseason, imo, as there should be after a disappointing season. I personally have alot more confidence in Pease as OC than I did Tim, and I think there will be a higher premium placed on oline and TE execution.

Not sure Rosey will be doing much yelling next season from what I understand. At least that will bring down the decibels a bit!

I didn’t say who would win or lose, just said there hasn’t been anything in recent history to indicate your statement is realistic.

PR.

If Germer is a “very good OL coach” why would Hauck reduce his role with coaching the OL?

To make more room for Phenecie. Coaching only TE's is a fairly small job.

Hell of a spin. Are all the teams that have “only” TE coaches just wasting valuable resources then?
