Northern Iowa...

For all you move-up whineyass bytche's that can't handle the status quo, get off your asses and do something about it ( as if there really was something you could actually do to change things? )

Never mind, carry on!
I'll bet your mother's, wives and sisters all expect more of this behavior, now from you anyway

The FCS Faithful remind one of the subject of the story about the hopelessly optimistic little boy whose parents tried to shock into finally facing up to reality. While his brother got a shiny new bike for Christmas he opened up a box full of shit wrapped in newspaper and exclaimed joyfully..."Oh boy, a pony that got away!"

FCS has lost ten ponies and counting...GrizNation will soon be left with the box... ;)

We don't have any say in the matter. Why don't you talk to someone who can do something about it?

"We don't have any say in the matter." Really?... For the better part of the Dennison years too many people adopted that attitude. From the campus to Helena and corporate board rooms across the state there has never been any urgency to move Griz athletics forward. And those who identify themselves as fans have been equally complicit, never voicing an opinion that UM athletics should ever be anything more than what they are - and have been since UM became a BSC charter member. Talk to "somebody who can do something about it?' Hmm, and who might that be? There is no one... Zero, zip, nada ...In truth we're just abusing cyberspace here - jousting windmills. The optimal time to grow has passed.

Haha. So true. UM's provincial attitude has done it no favors with athletics and the window may be shut already. We missed our shot when the WAC invited us. We could be in the MWC this upcoming season and instead we're sitting around with fingers up our collective asses waiting to play Ft. Lewis or Mesa State.

How bout winnin a few championships in a weaker division before we think about moving up? Probably be the last time we ever sniff one if we do move up. Food 4 thought

Winning championships has nothing to do with moving up. It is all about $$$, don't fool yourself.

And how many more championships do we need to win before we consider our time in the FCS as successful? One? Two? Five? We have been one of the most successful teams in this division for the last 25 years. We've made the National Championship seven times, and even though we have only won 2 of 7, we're one of only a few teams who have gotten to the NC as much as we have. We were also a few points away from making the NC again in 2006 and 2011. But success at this level doesn't mean you won't be successful at the next. Look at Boise, or Nevada. Boise was 1-1 in the NC. Nevada didn't even make it to a NC at this level. Since moving up Boise has been great, and Nevada has been pretty good, breaking into the top 25 a few times. In my opinion, I don't we need to win a few more championships to prove that we're ready to move up. I do believe that our leadership needs to start being proactive in not just the move-up debate, but our football program as a whole.

UNI, Liberty and James Madison and every other FCS school are not going anywhere.

Conference realignment at the FBS is pretty much done with the new ACC media contracts. The ACC owns all the tv rights for all the schools for 15 years. Which means that if a schools leaves, the ACC can make it so that the schools' teams are not on tv.

And a cap has been put on how much money the "other" FBS conferences get. So why would these conferences add schools to shirnk their piece of the pie.

I believe this has much insight into why we do not believe it is in our best interest to move up....and further more how do we know how all this is going to work out for the teams who have decided to move up,,,,they may come back begging for all most of us know, regarding this move up band wagon...

Not to be a dick... But in the last 30 years which team that moved up has begged to move down? Even as crappy as Idaho has been, they moved to the bsc in everything BUT football.

Well I may be missing something but there are so many teams moving up that the number of small fish swimming in the big pond simply means that there will be more small schools who will be irrelevant and never have an opportunity to do much more than play in the Poinsettia Bowl. Why is that any better than playing in a playoff system with a chance to win a championship?

I think you and I have a different interpretation of his post. For me, I believe he means the big conferences/schools will continue to separate themselves from the pack. There will be many programs that just moved up to BCS as well as ones who have been BCS, left behind by the big boys. They are not dropping down, but just able to keep pace any longer. That is pretty much the same boat Montana is in. Give it time, and we will likely be at the level we belong.

What a shit storm - period. Moving up sucks because you are irrelevant ( small fish in a big pond with no chance of winning and if you do - nobody cares) Staying out sucks (big fish in a small pond and if you win nobody cares). I guess it all boils down to dollars and cents. I think that is why egriz has so many posters. They all care about the money. Maybe we should start the irrelevant conference? There are plenty of teams who would fit the criteria required to join.

Pssssssssssssttttttttt...........we are already in that conference. :thumb:
Sorry to good resist.

I've said for years that by 2015 there will be a super 64 and a level 2 with the lower fbs and upper fcs, both with playoffs. I just hope um doesn't screw the pooch and wait to long and end up in the third teir with the Idaho states and northern colorados.

Peyton, I agree. I think we should shift the move up focus to proper preparation, when that day comes. I believe the approval of the academic center, and the NCAA investigation being over soon, are hints of that preparation being the main focus.

Is it coincidental the funds comes available, and the project moves forward along with rumored NCAA investigation wrapping up? I don't find that coincidental. After a few years of dark clouds handing over us, the sky is clearing up, and the future is now bright again. :thumb:

I've seen nothing from UM admin or the BOR that suggests anything other than that third teir being the target. Path of least resistance as usual. The only encouraging thing I have seen is the Wyoming game next year when we could have easily found a better payday.

Exactly. If lower level FBS does NOT develop a playoff system, they'll be the ONLY NCAA football level WITHOUT one. That ain't gonna happen.

Joins the MAC...

The FCS just keeps getting weaker

You and your little whining buddy Silvertip will take the next few days to cry about this, but I believe you and Silvertip were pushing for UM to join the WAC. That would have been a disaster, and you "move up" guys are always reluctant to admit that you're wrong.
