Only for the sake of accurate football history; The 1970 Dartmouth Football team did not beat Penn State. What has been referenced on here to prove Dartmouth's credentials is that in 1970 they were awarded a trophy called the Lambert Trophy or sometimes the Lambert Meadowlands Trophy. It was voted on by a group of New York sports writers. It was originally given to the team the writers think is the best in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Later teams that played outside the region but in the traditional NE conferences were also considered; (Miami and Louisville)AZGrizFan said:mthoopsfan said:Great. Glad you are no longer a Griz fan.

The 1970 Dartmouth team went 9-0 sweeping the Ivy League, their two non-conference games were against U Mass (4-5-1) who played in the Yankee Conference and Holy Cross, an independent who finished (0-10-1).
In contrast Penn State came into the season undefeated in 22 games but lost early at ranked Colorado and at Wisconsin and then fell to 2-3 with a home loss to Syracuse. Penn State rallied to win their last five including blowing out ranked Pitt in the season finale. 7-3 with a roster that included NFL HOF's Franco Harris and Jack Ham, 2X All Pro Lydell Mitchell as well as 12 year NFL punter/receiver Bob Parsons and QB John Huffnagel, most famous for being Dave Dickenson's boss with the Stampeders.
Would Dartmouth have beaten the Nittany Lions; no way to know.
Interestingly, Syracuse who beat Penn State and were also eligible for the Lambert were embroiled in the "Syracuse Nine" racial controversy and player boycott and limped to a 6-4 season despite the accolades for beating the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium.
This concludes Paul Harvey's broadcast...good day.
