No TV for the Griz vs Cat?

evgriz: Here is a hint. Media Buys or Small Market Media Sales

No I get that. But there still has to be a station willing to give up prime time coverage to air the game. Town Pump could pay 100% of the production costs. Hell, UM and MSU could split them. But they still have to find a station willing to air the game. On a Monday night? During prime time? Are you shitting me? Uh uh. Not with the market-share they were gonna see. I was shocked Altitude did the first game (albeit with a broadcast team that couldn't find Montana on a map). My guess is the ratings were so low for that they laughed when they were approached for this game. Especially in March, when there are dozens of other important BB games to cover.

With this kind of media promotional and entrepreneurial practice of the BSC's commissioner and fellow lackeys, we'll probably be lucky if ESPN even gives us wrap-around coverage of the BSC final....

Count me in on the disappointed/upset list of fans. I met up with friends and family at the Billings Buffalo Wild Wings, expecting they would get the game. There were about 30 GRIZ/CAT fans there to watch it. A lot of unhappy fans. So I just got back to the hotel and stuck with watching the replay.

it may be time for this athletic director to do his JOB!!

What was he supposed to do? UM made the game available. No one wanted to cover it. Did you want him to film it on his cell phone and all of us could gather around to watch?
EG nailed this one! All of his posts on this thread are 100% on the nose. Yes it sucks. If you live within 50 miles of Missoula, suck it! Welcome to the world of an out of stater. If no station covers the game, blame them. If not, curl up next to your computers and stop bitching! At least you get to watch the game for FREE.

It should have been pretty easy to drop the HDMI feed from one of the big screen TVs down to somebodys' laptop and put the hi-def Gogriz feed up on the big screen. I am surprised the Bar didn't think of that or have something like that available as a back-up.

I may be wrong so please correct me if I am. The feed was made available to a national tv station not the locals because of a contract the conference has signed. I am annoyed that the men and women are on the same night, different venues and on a MONDAY, making it impossible to watch both games live. I feel we (UM/MSU) should start throwing around our weight within our conference and tell them we won't put up with this BS. This conference needs us more than we need them IMO.

...the griz/cat monday night...
...and breaks the needle...
...on the stupid meter...

... ...

We've been doing EXACTLY that for years @ Sluggers in Kirkland when there are issues with the satellite feed...

Totally agree on the Monday scheduling (I'm a drinker) and having the games at the same exact time, does nothing but hurt women's basketball. Not sure about the content of the contract with the conference.

It was disappointing to read. One of the privileges of life with this University is to be able to go somewhere, meet some alums, and watch a game together and have a good time, almost no matter where you happen to be at.

The Mom of one of my students is a research scientist, and the family lives in Olympia. I think they wanted "the Boy" to go somewhere else, but he wanted to come to Montana for some reason. The Fall of his second year, she was intrigued by his descriptions of the sports, and the enthusiasm, and learned of these bars all around the country that were "Griz" bars for games. She went to the trouble of finding one in Olympia and just "showed up" to see what all the ruckus was about regarding University of Montana football.

She's not a bar-type, so she just walked in the door and kind of stood there looking over the assembled maroon multitude. The Game was just starting. Someone saw her standing there, assumed she might have been an alumni, called her over, made introductions, found out her son was attending UM, and made her feel right at home watching the game with them.

She came away not just impressed, but having experienced something she never experienced before in her own collegiate experiences (PhD). She drug her husband (also a PhD) to the next one, and they came all the way over for "Parents Day" and the Game this past Fall Semester and just had a great time.

For what it is worth, this is the explanation I got from Ron Loghry, the assistant commissioner of the BSC on Monday when I emailed him and asked him for an explanation as to why the game was on Monday. The good news is that with the addition of Idaho to the mix next year we should get back to having the game on Saturday next year.

Mark:

The way the current schedule works, when a travel pair plays the lone wolf (SUU), one plays SUU on Thurs, the other on Saturday and then the travel pair plays Monday. It is like this for every travel pair in the Conference (ISU/WSU, UND/UNC, PSU/EWU, SAC/NAU).

If you recall, last year we did make the exception for the UM/MSU game and one team played SUU on Thursday, the UM/MSU game was Saturday and then the other school played SUU on Monday. This was done solely because of the past precedence of a lucrative local television contract mandating the game needing to be on Saturday. However, two things happened: 1.) the local television contract never materialized – and in fact the two schools PAID for the games to be on – and, 2.) the presidents listened to the concerns raised by the SUU president and faculty athletic representative that this caused the SUU men’s and women’s teams to be on the road for seven days, five of which were class days.

Therefore, with the knowledge that this would be the last year with the Lone Wolf schedule (as Idaho joins next year), it was moved that the Conference schedule the UM/MSU travel pair just as all the others in the Conference. Starting next year, the UM/MSU game will once again return to Saturday, and in fact will be the only game that week for both.

I hope the explanation helps.

Ron

Thanks for taking the initiative to run it by them, 84. It's appreciated.

Thanks for digging up an answer but I still think it's BS. Play the games against SUU on Wed/Thur. Excuses, excuses.

What would have been so bad (or hard) about changing:
SUU: Thurs. 2/27 @MSU, Saturday 3/1 @UM (2 games that week)
Thurs. 3/6 UND, Sat. 3/8 UNC (2 games that week)
MSU: Thurs. 2/27 SUU (1 game that week)
Monday 3/3 @UM, Thurs. 3/6 @NAU, Sat. 3/8 @Sac St. (3 games/week)
UM: Saturday 3/1 SUU (1 game that week)
Monday 3/3 MSU, Thurs. 3/6 @Sac State, Sat. 3/8 @NAU (3 games/week)

To:
SUU: Tues. 2/25 @MSU, Thurs. 2/27 @UM (2 games that week, shouldn't take 7 days to travel when the sites are only 3 hours apart by bus :? )
Thurs. 3/6 UND, Sat. 3/8 UNC (2 games that week)
MSU: Tues. 2/25 SUU, Sat. 3/1 @UM (2 games that week)
Thurs. 3/6 @NAU, Sat. 3/8 @Sac St. (2 games that week)
UM: Thurs. 2/27 SUU, Saturday 3/1 MSU (2 games that week)
Thurs. 3/6 @Sac State, Sat. 3/8 @NAU (2 games that week)
