NIT (and Others)

I debated whether or not to just add this to the NCAA Playoff thread, but decided that would just confuse things.

Monmouth bumped another conference #1 seed (Bucknell) in their first NIT game and had a chance to prove themselves further -- but then got blitzed by 16 points by George Washington tonight.

Be interesting to see what happens in the Washington vs San Diego State game tonight (9:30 MT), supposedly being televised on ESPN2. Before that (8:00 MT), we have EWU vs Nevada-Reno, but it looks like that will only be available by Internet streaming.

Oh, and Georgia Tech is thumping South Carolina at halftime, by 14 points. Of course, we've seen how even that big a lead can evaporate in a hurry. ;)

Wow, G-Tech is killing S Carolina! Nearly 30 points out in front.

EWU and N-Reno tied getting close to the half -- and the refs have only called 11 fouls between the two teams. :o

St. Mary's led (by 2 points) at the half, but Valpo ran away from them in the second half. Ended up winning 60-44.

Creighton had BYU down by as much as 12 points during the first half, but BYU leads by a point at the half.

Even without the NCAA championship, there's lots of BBall going on.

If BYU and San Diego State can take care of business in the semifinals (BYU vs Valpo, SDSU vs Geo Washington), there could be an all-western final in the NIT. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, N-Reno is (so far) maintaining a 8-12 point lead over Vermont in the second half. If they hold on, they will be in the best-of-three finals of the CBI. The CBI web site says the finals will still be on home courts, with one team getting 2 at home, the other 1 -- but it doesn't say how that's decided. Anyone know?

FWIW: The best-of-three finals will supposedly be broadcast on ESPN-U.

Looks like that best-of-three will be between Nevada and Morehead State ... Woofies winning handily now.

Had to look up Morehead State, which is in Morehead, Kentucky, in the middle of nowhere about 130 miles east of Louisville. Looks like pretty country though.

Morehead won game one on their home court, apparently with a late buzzer-beater. Nevada won tonight on their home court by 9 points, but it was close most of the way. Final, deciding CBI championship game is Friday night at Nevada.

Nevada made a good run and now leads Morehead 19-12 at the under-12-min TV timeout. This whole series has been like this -- one teams makes a run, and then the other makes a run back.

Hell of a ball game!

Went into overtime, then right at the end a Morehead player hit the rim on a mid-court hope shot that would have put into double-OT.

Congrats to Nevada ... and they earned it the hard way. :thumb:

I remember reading PR saying that if the Griz could beat Nevada, we'd have a clear path "to winning this thing". Guess the dude knows a bit about basketball too. lol
