NFL Practice Squad

Remember that Tommy was added by Calgary and Dave Dickenson to the negotiation list.

"Each CFL team maintains a Negotiation List of up to 45 players who are currently either unsigned or are playing in the NFL, in another professional league, or in college. Teams hold exclusive CFL negotiating rights with players on their lists, and those players can be added, traded or removed at any time."

Tommy may be thinking he still wants to play QB instead of chasing an opportunity that might be limited to special teams. I am 100% speculating.
I think that would be super cool if Tommy played for Dave. Vernon Adams is his guy now but how many years does he have left. Hes a 10 year vet now.

There are some rumors Tommy Mellott could be headed to the Bengals practice squad. They had him for a pre draft visit and have 2 spots remaining on their practice squad.

He can do that the rest of his life. His window for professional football is closing fast compared to the long term. I wouldn't quit if i were him.
Yea and you'd probably be walking with a cane when you were 40. If he doesn't make the NFL within a year or so he'd be stupid to put himself through all that for peanuts.

Being s bit overdramtic i think. You seen a lot if ex QB's on canes? Cant think that i have. Some people love the game and play til they can't, and some people quit. Im 48 and still playing summer and fall softball. Probably do it till i cant. If Tommy wants to be a quitter though, that's his choice. Most quitters don't let it bother them.

Maybe not on a cane but every ex football player I know who is over 50 has some sort of health issue even kickers and punters.

I am 63 and last played 9 years ago for the Maggots (the Flies), in Missoula against New Zealand. (2016) I began in 1984.
