It was a smart T for him. He worked the refs well and of the next 8 fouls called after he got the technical 7 of them went against the Griz. That hurt.

True and quite sad that a game like this between the top two teams towards the end of the season means very little in this new tournament format.
 
Man Breunig started out abusing them. They adjusted to MB and it just falls on the rest of the team to hit something from the perimeter or dribble drive and score or dish to open things back up. You cant let them double (or more) Breunig and then not punish them for it. That is how you lose games and we did. Dunn showed early in the second half there was room for agressive attack and we didnt go back to it until about the last two minutes of the game with Oguine.
 
I thought the Griz played an excellent defensive game and rebounded both ends very well (outboard WSU by 4). Maybe they were a bit passive on offense... don't know, but they missed a lot of shots in or around the paint that were soft... short & hitting the front rim. Many were wide open. Simply put, it's tough to win when you shoot 32% and nearly impossible when your opponent is as good as the Wildcats.

I frankly think this might be a team and program defining game. The Griz stood up to the Wildcats better than they have in years... against a lot of odds with the foul disparity. I believe WSU made had 24 free throws, exactly double the 12 by the Griz. I know that several came in the final 3 minutes, but trim it by 6 and there's still a huge disparity. To quote Wayne Tinkle from earlier this season: "That's life on the road, baby."

There's still a big weekend left. A lot can happen.
 
So since this conference is all fucked up, are we co-champs if Weebs loses one on the road this weekend or does this count as the tie break?
 
I agree with Grizzlyjournal. Montana shot very poorly in front of the basket and Weber hit some crazy, long with guys in their face 3's. Maybe a good loss as it will be motivation for the last weekend and tournament
 
Just watched a video of the incident in the postgame lineup. Walter Wright had his hand out, ready to shake the hand of a much taller player (read somewhere else it was Juwan Williams) when the WSU player hit Wright hard with two open palms in WW's chest, then grabbed Wright's jersey while yelling at him. Based on my view, Wright was caught totally off guard, as was Jack Lopez, directly behind Wright. A Weber player then immediately tried to grab the WSU player who had grabbed, and not yet let go, of Wright. Split second later, there was Travis DeCuire, after the Weber player, with an aggressive move to move him back. Video ended there. No doubt that Wright was caught totally off guard by the blows.
 
The same douche who took away the Griz momentum by saying he was spit on causing a 14 minute delay by that outstanding officiating crew....

Look, who can tell what happened between the players involved, I haven't seen any video that showed anything clear or who started it. Who's to say if Wright did or did not spit at the Weber bench, who knows what was being said by both teams up and down the court, it's a rivalry and things can get heated.

It was a good defensive game played by two very good very evenly matched basketball teams. Big Sky might not get the recognition other conferences but that didn't stop the close to 9,000 in attendance from knowing how important the game was. Very enjoyable atmosphere that felt like a championship atmosphere, something you're not gonna get in Reno
 
I'm certain there was plenty of smack talk on both sides. I'm certain that Wright didn't spit on anyone. I'm certain the delay after the long video review hurt Montana's momentum. I'm certain that it's strange such a strange allegation would come with Montana on a run. I'm certain that two separate sports writers wouldn't tweet about what they clearly saw in the video of the dustup if it weren't true. I'm certain GJ's synopsis above is accurate. I'm certain your guy deserves a one game suspension.

The remainder of your post is a good one.

Are there other leagues that have a history of bad ref's or is it just a BSC thing? Consistently bad like the BSC.
How or are they graded ?
 
The Pac12 officials are generally known to suck.

Your second question is a good one. In this conference I'd say they get a top grade by showing up. Expectations of quality (in anything) aren't real high at our league's offices.

MWC officials are horrible also, with a few monumental errors this season.

I did just see a video showing the incident, yes Juan did push Walter, I'm guessing Juan had a reason for what he did, not an acceptable one but players don't start fights without one. I rewatched the game and something must have happened cause the entire Weber bench reacted to it.


And I disagree, I do not think Juan deserves a game suspension, he make get some punishment per Rahe's comments in the paper, but I don't think shoving and having words with an opposing player merits a suspension. It's not any worse than Cherry throwing the basketball at Lillard's head after a game in Ogden.
 
From the Standard Examiner today:

A fight appeared to break out as teams shook each other’s hands after the game. Wildcat freshman Juwan Williams grabbed Walter Wright by his jersey in the front and exchanged words. Coaches tried to remedy the situation as soon as they could, but the large group of people in the vicinity made the task difficult.

“I don’t know what happened,” Rahe said of the incident. “I hate it. I’m going to find out what happened. We’ve got a nice rivalry with Montana going, but they’re quality people up there. We’ll find out what happened. If one of our guys did something, they will regret it. That’s not who we are.”
