New criteria for playoff selection.

HA!!! You always know they have no argument when they say things like, "lotta words, no statement".

Take a look at last year's playoff teams (with 4 less) and tell me how many of those you could have imagined in the playoffs 5 years ago. Or, more importantly, deserved to be there?

Ummm, not sure what Boise has to do with the conversation. But, ummm, thanks for asking, I guess?? But I'll try to answer your idiotic question like this: I'd rather be ranked #20 at the top level of the sport, than #10 at a glorified DII with teams like Panhandle State around me.
I would bet good money that, if and when UM were to move "up," they would never, ever be ranked #20.

That is the sad fact that DHiW doesn't want to admit

The FCS NC's that have moved up have moved on to obscurity

I have good money I will put up.

Any Griz fan that thinks the Griz would hit #20 is delusional. Look at the basketball team, and they only have to put together 5-7 quality players, let alone 22-35. The basketball team has had some solid years, perhaps the best that can be done here at UM with the way college sports are now, and they didn't get near the Top 25 and have been downright embarrassed when playing true quality in the tournament the past 2 years.

2506 is right, if all you care about is winning, and not simply being able to pound your chest because you are playing with the "big boys" (i.e. New Mexico State, Utah State, San Jose St, Colorado St, etc.), then moving to the FBS is death sentence.

There is hope for you after all :thumb:

It's not a fair comparison, 95.

Put UM basketball in a better conference, where they get more exposure and they would get better athletes. On top of that, they would get better RPIs and better seeds in the tournament.

Oh, and FWIW, it was only a handful of years that the BB team finished in the top 32.

And I'd rather play Colorado State than Northern Colorado.

Unlike most on here, I don't have my head in the maroon sand all the time.

Truly, I don't understand the Griz crowd that cries for a move up. Why? What we, and yes even recently in Bozeman, have is a really unique niche in college athletics. The end game for a perennial FCS power is a national championship with a run through the playoffs. If you move up the best you get, and no we are not the one random Boise St outlier, is a bowl in a sunny, touristy hot spot on December 27. I'd trade a decade of bowls in foreign cities for a night playoff game at Wa-Griz.

They finished in the top 32 because of an inflated record due to playing inferior competition. You put the '06 team in the PAC 10 that year and they're middle of the pack at best.

And why would UM deserve to be put in a better conference? I hate to break it to you but because this is Montana we are a little bit out in the middle of nowhere as far as the rest of the country is concerned. It's great to dream big, but you have to stay in reality when you do it.

And sure you can pick on Northern Colorado but they are consistently one of the worst in our conference. The Big Sky has really improved recently. Over the last decade the EWU rivalry has become awesome and I've truly enjoyed watching these games.

Well, I'm not sure how to respond to this since you're admitting that UM plays inferior competition. On that point we agree, certainly. As to how they would have fared in the PAC 10, it's all conjecture. But living in Seattle I watch a lot of PAC BB, and that Griz team would have been just fine. Oh, and Stanford finished 4th in the Pac that year and got blown out by Montana.

Again, I just will NEVER understand the defeatist attitude of "we're Montana; we're too small to be good".

You can always tell that your argument is good, when they only attack your grammar

I'm not picking on you... I just thought it was funny.
