NDSU to MWC

Or one might just look at the 50 G6 programs with lower attendance and much lower ticket prices than UM who are thriving financially at that level and assume there must be plenty of money coming from somewhere. Those programs -- to my knowledge-- don't have a printing press cranking out Franklins, so they're balancing their budgets somehow.

And would you agree revenue will fall precipitously if UM is suddenly a third-tier program?

Montana has a population of just over 1 million people. Wyoming would be the closest from a size perspective for TV markets since they have one university and a population of about 700,000. Wyoming isn’t doing well. Would Montana be the same? Hard to say, but where is the budget. Montana is one of the least populated states in the nation. I don’t think comparing it to the 50 G6 programs is an accurate comparison. Doesn’t really matter. You can raise your fist at the football Gods and scream. Moving up isn’t happening. I would love it if it was a possibility. I just don’t think it is.

It would suck for UND and USD, but it would be cool for UM, MSU, Idaho, and South Dakota State to get invites to the MWC to round it all out at 14.

Two divisions of 7, keep the schedule full of annual rivals.

East: Air Force, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, UTEP, Wyoming

West: Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, San Jose State, UNLV

Nah, Wyoming should be on the west side. Swap them out for Nevada 😂

Almost all of the teams I would be interested in besides Montana are in the east. Air Force, New Mexico, NDSU and Wyoming are the most interesting opponents in my opinion.

Also, once SDSU, MSU, Davis, Tarleton, etc. move up, we can probably string together some consecutive FCS National Championships! It’s a waiting game. Just a matter of time.
I know you’re being facetious but you do know MSU and UM are tied at the hip. One ain’t going without the other

I know that’s the way it was, but I think we (UM) will find a way to stay FCS no matter what. Big Ten invite? Nah, plane tickets are crazy these days and we’d have to add sports! Where is the $$$ coming from?

It’s not what the UM wants it’s what the BOR will allow. And they won’t allow one to move up without the other. Haslam already alluded to the fact that it’s an eventuality that both schools move up.

Yes, I understand the dynamic, and appreciate your explanation. I’m just being whiny and hyperbolic because another one left us in the dust.

Commend NDSU on making the move. I bet it serves them well. I see them competing right away.
I think the ship has sailed for the Griz to make the move. We will eventually be in a massively watered down division as others will also make the move. We will then be competing against new programs that come into the division watching and helping build there programs.
I think UM should not invest a bunch of money as they have to be competitive at this level. Why build FBS caliber facilities to compete in what will be Div II in all reality. What will be a biggest kick in the sack will be if MSU moves up and we watch them walk away from us. We are seeing that happen already.

The Board of Regents has already said the MT schools are a package deal, neither school can go anywhere without the other.

Chances are the PAC is going to poach another 1 or 2 MWC teams in 2030+ (I think Hawaii and UNLV for example) and Air Force would probably leave to join Army and Navy in the American. Assuming that happens what I'd like to see:

Montana...........MSU
Idaho................Davis
SJSU.................Nevada
UNM..................UTEP
Wyoming..........*NIU
*NDSU..............*SDSU
**GCU

* = FOOTBALL ONLY
** = NO FOOTBALL

That being said we along with MSU and the State BOR need to pull our heads out of our ass and get serious about looking to move up or there is a very good chance we will be left behind.

It’s already been said many times MSU is not moving up with UM. MSU fans I have talked to are excited about the FCS moving forward without NDSU.

Do you think South Dakota State is next? UND really dragged their feet on the D2 to FCS move.
Better check that UND story. Big brother stopped them from moving up until the BSC let them join

Reality check. Wyoming population about 500k

UNLV has got to be attractive. Great destination for fans and a pretty good TV market. I believe they will be playing in Allegiant Stadium....
