NDSU Head Coach (Matt Entz) moving on... to USC

I don't care what type of player you are, this will affect your psyche to some extent during the week when your coach announces he is leaving.

I

Disagree. If he was leaving for a head coach gig where there was a good possibility the entire staff would change, you might be correct. I would think, with history, that an assistant is elevated and most things remain familiar.

Yes

Wonder if he’s gonna coach the remaining game?

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head football coach Matt Entz announced Sunday, Dec. 10, that he will resign to accept a coaching position with another Division I university playing at the FBS level. Entz will continue coaching the Bison through the FCS playoffs. NDSU (11-3) is scheduled to play at Montana in the NCAA FCS semifinals on Saturday, Dec. 16. A search will begin immediately for NDSU's next head football coach.

Entz, who joined the Bison program in 2014 as defensive coordinator, has a 60-10 record as head coach for five seasons from 2019 through 2023. Entz has been part of six FCS national championships at NDSU, including two as head coach in 2019 and 2021. He was selected FCS National Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association both of those years.

I don't get it... I guess some people would say "because ND is cold"... Ok, but he never spends time in cold, granted the Heated Hillbilly Dome is colder than CA by 10 or more degrees...

Gotta be that there ain't shit to do in the entire State of ND. They don't even have a cool mountain to look at.

You Betcha!

It has to have a negative effect on at least some of the players' psyches and that will negatively affect their play (My theory). Which players and by how much are the questions. And will that net effect have an impact on the outcome of the game? In my book the Griz were always going to win so for me the question now is by how much? Answer: probably by more than before.

Haley's take on the move.

Key quote:
A head coach announcing an impending departure while his team is making a playoff run would be stunning at many programs, but not with NDSU, where it’s occurred twice previously during the Bison’s FCS dynasty. Craig Bohl finished out a national championship run in 2013 after accepting the head coaching position at Wyoming, then Chris Klieman did the same in 2018 after accepting the Kansas State job.

I'm certain we'll be assured this is no big deal by Bison fans all week,.

But if NDSU loses, it will an immediate excuse.

Nah they’re already extremely cocky. They’re convinced that Cliff sucks and his attitude is shitty.

Typical closet racism by the fan base in Fargo that you’d expect.

Why would it have an effect on the players. Most teams are constantly having to fill holes because of players leaving for NIL to the p5. Fans and players should understand it’s a business a business for the coaches.

Can't wait for people to make more of this then it is all week.

Yeah, NDSU will still come in here and play their absolute asses off. However, I do wonder if some of the players on their roster already considering the portal and NIL money maybe take the leap now……

They'd be smart to do so! Why wait and have their bags of $$$ diminished to stay in the flat frozen North sucksville!! I say strike while the iron is hot young men, don't be stupid! Nobody else will look out for you but yourselves!!

I’d feel a little on the abandoned side… but what do I know.
Thinking about it more, I actually see it two ways:

1. These kids are probably planning on leaving anyway, so Entz leaving after this season doesn't really bother them. There are probably other kids that might leave that wouldn't have before, but I doubt they'd do so before the season is over. However...

2. If I'm a kid that has $100k-$250k in NIL lined up on the condition I transfer and play next year, why in the world would I risk getting hurt in 1-2 more games, putting that money in jeopardy?

Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner!!

NDSU is successful because it doesn't change what has worked, and worked well, for years. Internal promotions have worked well. Why the hell would they change now?
