NDSU Head Coach (Matt Entz) moving on... to USC

Its interesting the last couple of coaches got themselves gigs as head ball coaches elsewhere. This guy is going to the Choate school of coaching, find a cushy coordinators position and wait his turn for a Mountain West posting. Well... it might not be the MW then, but you get the picture.

$400,000 goes a long way in Fargo. I'm sure he's getting a nice salary bump to go to the University of Spoiled Children, but I hope he checked housing prices in LA before he made his decision. He may think this is a stepping stone to something bigger. And from what I read on the Bizon board leading up to their game against our rivals, many of the faithful didn't much care for him. So, probably a few factors at play.

Yes! Same people who insist the Griz can't perform if the halftime crowd isn't all back in their seats. Nevermind how our kids can function at away games without the WA Griz crowd.

It most likely will be Tyler Roehl, if he wants it. Many fans believe he would make a better head coach than he is an OC. His intensity is sky high, and people would run through walls for him. He is the ultimate motivator. As a coordinator, Roehl was in love with A gap power too much, and not opening things up with the passing game like previous coordinators..
While Personally I liked Entz, he did not seem to enjoy dealing with the BS that comes with being a head coach. I'm sure his inbox was full after losing 3 games this season, and people were probably threatening to put FOR SALE signs on his lawn. I'd bet he doesn't even want a head coach job anywhere. Just let him coach a position and make almost a cool million per year sounds pretty good too.
The only other outside name I'd think would be in consideration is Tim Polasek, the OC from Wyoming, and that's if Roehl didn't want the job. I highly doubt Vigen would even be interested.
 
Vigen is a No
Roehl is the easy choice (in house hire no posted job)
Polasak is probable, but if they chose Polasak I believe by state law they need to open the position up for 30 days so then NDSU might see some pretty big names apply

Bison players were aware of this around Tuesday or Wednesday of last week already. Entz knew it was going to get leaked sooner than later and that's why it came out now..

Bison didn't look to distracted saturday against usd, total domination.

This guy is absolute trash, like that program. I would be maga pissed if I was a buffaloes.

Just last week he was complaining about his players getting poached by NIL programs during the playoffs. At the time, he was obviously doing the same thing and scheming this sham behind the players’ backs. The hypocrisy is unmeasurable.

It was officially announced yesterday, the team heard of it earlier when entz addressed it to them then

We've seen a lot of posts about the degree to which players like/respect Hauck, and how with ~100 guys, there is bound to be some who don't. I would think the same logic would apply here. There has to be some players who are saying, "F*ck this guy." Bizons just have to hope those players aren't the key ones.
 
I have no inside dirt on Entz's replacement, but I can tell you that it isn't uncommon for coaches to recognize they aren't wired to be the head guy. Same happened with Rocky Long at SDSU, part of the reason they are in the boat they are right now because Rocky brought back Brady Hoke to be on his staff. They'd be a vastly different position had they gone with one of the 18 other qualified Rocky protege's to be the next coach rather than Hoke.

UM got lucky for years with its hires, but every time you have to do it, which is the price of success, you run the risk of upsetting the apple cart. Fans become more intolerant, short fused and lack some institutional memory that leads to some of the hate that Entz likely got this year. I saw it first hand in Missoula over the years, and it does take a special guy to be in programs where the expectations are sky-high.
